Have you seen this video? Our James Poulos forwarded it to me, and I swear it gave me goose bumps. And country music doesn’t, as a rule, give me goose bumps. But this song, expressing so thoroughly what so many Americans have been saying for so long, is just wonderful. Besides, any video that includes a line from Uncle Ted Nugent gets my happy endorsement.

This video meshes nicely with what our own Mark Steyn said today while guest hosting for Rush when he made a fascinating observation about 9/11. Perhaps you heard it too? The one and only bright spot in that day’s awful events took place when the heroic people on Flight 93 learned what three other aircraft had wrought, and decided that theirs’ would not be the fourth such attack.

You see, the entire alphabet soup of government agencies, including the FBI, CIA, NSC, DOD, and EIEIO, were powerless to thwart the attacks. In the end, it was self-sufficient Americans; independent minded, liberty-loving, fiercely-courageous free men and women who defeated the terrorists on the aircraft and denied them their goal of an attack on either US Capitol or the White House.

Over 200 years ago, free men won our independence. It was free men, through their respective states, who gave birth to the federal government. For generations, free men and women have fought our wars. And in 2001, it was free men and women who gave their lives, literally saving one or more branches of that government. To show it’s appreciation, the government has proceeded to bankrupt us and our descendants. It orders our lives according to its priorities, running roughshod over the very Constitution it was instituted to preserve. It refuses to perform it’s most basic function, leaving us defenseless against a virtual invasion across our borders and then sues us when we try to defend ourselves.

And how do our public officials view us? When we exercise our right to protest, we are called racist. When we call for a return to the Constitution, we are accused of turning back the clock. When we express our concern over a mosque built as a provocative act on the ashes of thousands of our people, we are called xenophobic. The list goes on and on.

In fact, we are not any of these things. We are citizens, free men and women, and we vote. The ruling class works at our pleasure, as we will demonstrate in a few short months. November can’t get here soon enough.

Speaking of Steyn on Rush, his riff on the GZM was a classic--best radio I've heard in quite some time, maybe ever. The gist: It's not about the mosque; it's about the hole. It's not about them; it's about us.

Steyn was loaded for bear today. Whatever he's making, he'd triple it if he got his own syndicated show. Amazing talent.

I think he referred to himself as an undocumented radio host, or something like that. More accurately, he's a national treasure. Lacerating humor, grounded in the abiding principles of freedom. It's a potent combination.

Dave, this is a brilliant post! Your eloquent reminder that as free people we control our own destiny, has me pumped for November.

Dave, it's high time I came out of lurkdom and told you I love your posts. I'm sitting at the back of beyond here -- a great place, but far, far away from the heartland -- and I get a real sense of the pulse of the nation through your chronicles.

To know Dave is to catch a glimpse of the many examples of American exceptionalism.

Hey, George! You left just before the fist-fight erupted.

I was talking to my friend in Sweden on Skype last night and we were having fun pulling up each other's houses on Google Earth. After joking about all the Volvos on her block, I pulled the map back to Europe and asked her to describe the personalities of the different countries. Her most remarkable comment was how Denmark distinguishes itself from Sweden. They have a less oppressive government, so the people are more free and their spirits reflect that. Her words..."The government here just tells us what to do.". In that moment, I looked across the ocean to the United States...the only sacred place on Earth that could use the Bald Eagle as its symbol. A bird that represents two of the greatest gifts from God, free will and a unique soul. To destroy that is a crime against Him. No wonder so many liberals are atheists.

Outstanding song and video. The best I've seen in a long time.

We're the last nation on earth that can stand up to world Statism and the destruction of individual freedom in the world. I've spent a lot of time in Europe and England, and, sadly, they're gone as a force for the Western Tradition and its Christian heart.

China, Russia, Canada, South America, Japan, Southeast Asia, Asia Minor... Individual freedom won't sprout there.

In whatever guise it comes, communism, socialism, the D.C. Ruling Class, environmentalism, the green revolution, or radical Islam, it really amounts to the same thing:

"If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever."
George Orwell

Here, now, in these United States, we are making a last stand to change that future.

Judith, you are very kind. Thank you. And please stay safe over there in Lurkdom. Felecia, an example of American exceptionalism? Ummm, you want unmarked bills in small denomination, right?

"...the only sacred place on Earth that could use the Bald Eagle as its symbol. A bird that represents two of the greatest gifts from God, free will and a unique soul. Correction: I meant to say, "...they're gone as a force for the Western Tradition and its Judeo-Christian heart."
