So a writer I follow who lives in New Hampshire just tweeted:

@publicroad: I live in NH & just got a robocall polling me about what I think about Romney vs. Gingrich vs. *Jeb Bush*.

Other folks are reporting the same polling is taking place in New Hampshire.

OK, so I actually like Jeb Bush, however much I think the Bush dynasty might have trouble putting a third member over the top.

But here's my (based-solely-on-my-fervent-hopes) theory ... someone else is doing some proxy polling. This is either someone working on getting Paul Ryan or Mitch Daniels or someone else like that into the race but without wanting to create the buzz that they are. They're just testing a potential late entrant to get into the race.

Or, you know, someone's feeling out how folks might feel about a Jeb Bush entry. People are obviously not as elated as they could be with any of the folks in the running right now. Mitt Romney, whatever else you want to say about him, has failed to generate much support despite tons of money and effort and time devoted to the cause. The rest of the folks have serious weaknesses that limit their ability to unite the party, much less win the presidency. And the times are dire. Serious people are looking for a serious alternative.

I'm excited. What do you think is going on? I can dream, right?

Serious people realize there is no serious alternative. It would create entertaining drama however.

I've been working on his campaign slogans:
Jeb Bush: Because I'm taller than my brother.
Jeb Bush: Another milquetoast candidate to join the circular firing squad.
Jeb Bush: Just because I have the same last name as my brother and father doesn't mean I'm a managerial progressive like they are.
Jeb Bush: The man who will shift down two gears before driving America off the cliff.
Jeb Bush: Message: I care. so compassionately about conservatism.
Jeb Bush: Because the first two Bushes advanced the conservative cause so well!

Obama's people are behind it.... so it would make the news and have even more Republicans throw Their hands up in the air and say, "to hell with it all."

Mollie Hemingway, Ed.

Michael,

The great tragedy of the Republican story is that Jeb Bush lost his first gubernatorial election and his brother George won his first. Everyone says that if Jeb had won, he'd have run instead of W and he would have been a more conservative, more serious, guy.

I don't even want to deal with another Bush run, but I have to defend him a bit here. You were unintentionally on the right path when you wrote:

Jeb Bush: Just because I have the same last name as my brother and father doesn't mean I'm a managerial progressive like they are.

Well, Mollie, as you know, I was holding out for a late entrant pretty darned late, well into October. But at this stage, it's ridiculous. I can still hope for a brokered convention, but failing that I think we each have to decide which of the lousy candidates is the least lousy, and act accordingly.

Wrong Florida Republican.

Hmmmm. What Florida Republican could Freesmith have in mind? Who might be the person he's thinking of who is capable of rallying the base with a single stem-winder of a speech at a divided convention, uniting it by bringing youth, energy, core conservatism, eloquence, Tea Party bona fides, excitement, intelligence and the one demographic segment that Obama cannot afford to lose, to the GOP standard?

Who is Freesmith thinking about?

Jeb Bush: If nominated I promise to make Liz Cheney my VP candidate, just to annoy the left.

I like Jeb, but I just can't see a 3rd Bush getting elected.  People are just tired of the name.  Not to mention heads on the Left might literally explode were he to win.  Wait...

This is the 'bad' Mollie waving the carrot of hope. I am not falling for it. Wake me up when Paul Ryan announces on national television, until then don't disturb my nightmare.

Only if Jeb can prove that he was adopted...or born in Kenya.

Seems Jeb may be just simply wiser to walk away from the last name brand thing.

No. No. No. No. No.

We have had enough of the socialist Bush family.  It would be unpatriotic, unamerican, unethical, immoral, and a bad idea to vote in another Bush.

I will vote for anyone other than another Bush.  I might even vote for that marxist Obama if it means keeping another Bush away, so long as he doesn't have control of the house and senate again.

Never again will I vote for a Bush, not only because they are socialists and keynesians, but more importantly because I do not believe that dynasties are good for this nation.

W is a socialist, Obama is a Marxist, and people who vote for Jeb would be unpatriotic, unamerican, unethical, and immoral?  I can't wait to hear the adjectives you assign to Assad, Chavez, Putin, Mugabe, Ahmedinnerjacket, or Kim Jong Il.

Fact is the field stinks and nearly everyone knows it.  I suspect the robocall does have a different motive than yet another Bush albeit one a touch less socialistic than W.

Please let it be Rubio or Ryan, Oh Dear Lord Please!

Those are called dictators.  Their ideology is irrelevant.  It's the ideology of the well-meaning ones like the Bushes and the ideologues like Obama that set up the dictators.

Just a small point, Ma'am; are you claiming that Romney has invested his own money into this race? If so, I believe that you're wrong; his latest released figure of $32m was all raised in the same way that Perry got his $17m. If you were referring to previous races or to other people's money, fair enough.

“There’s enough beans for four men,” George said.

Lennie watched him from over the fire. He said patiently, “I like ‘em with ketchup.”

“Well, we ain’t got any,” George exploded. “Whatever we ain’t got, that’s what you want."

We need an EJHill special with Bill Kristol wearing a black eye patch, driving the Weekly Standard Cruise ship right into the National Review Cruise ship with Mollie and her husband (what's his name again? Oh yes, Mark) waving some kind of signage (I'm momentarily stumped, but someone must have some good Lutheran jokes handy) and boarding the main deck all the while shoving Captain Romney and insubordinate Lieutenant Gingrich out of the way while various other candidates come aboard via rubber dingie.
