So a writer I follow who lives in New Hampshire just tweeted:
@publicroad: I live in NH & just got a robocall polling me about what I think about Romney vs. Gingrich vs. *Jeb Bush*.
Other folks are reporting the same polling is taking place in New Hampshire.
OK, so I actually like Jeb Bush, however much I think the Bush dynasty might have trouble putting a third member over the top.
But here's my (based-solely-on-my-fervent-hopes) theory ... someone else is doing some proxy polling. This is either someone working on getting Paul Ryan or Mitch Daniels or someone else like that into the race but without wanting to create the buzz that they are. They're just testing a potential late entrant to get into the race.
Or, you know, someone's feeling out how folks might feel about a Jeb Bush entry. People are obviously not as elated as they could be with any of the folks in the running right now. Mitt Romney, whatever else you want to say about him, has failed to generate much support despite tons of money and effort and time devoted to the cause. The rest of the folks have serious weaknesses that limit their ability to unite the party, much less win the presidency. And the times are dire. Serious people are looking for a serious alternative.
I'm excited. What do you think is going on? I can dream, right?
