I don't think she meant it this way, but all you need to do, GOP, is sort of reverse-engineer this column. Basically, stand back, don't do anything stupid, and let the Left march itself off a cliff:

Still, the rush to proclaim Obama the one, true progressive in 2008 was foolish, and I'd suggest that those who wound up disappointed in Obama think more about what they can learn from that race, rather than plotting to bring him down in 2012. Switching candidates now would be just another symptom of progressives' inability to dig in for a long haul of taking our country back from the plutocrats who now run it. It's tough work. I think, sadly, Obama is probably the most progressive Democrat who could be elected right now. (Admittedly, it's still early, and it's still theoretically possible for Obama to do something so outrageous as to change my mind.) I'd rather see liberals put time and money into electing courageous folks to the House and Senate than a quixotic attack on Obama, which would split the party racially -- almost 90 percent of African-Americans still support the president in most polls -- and probably hand the White House to Republicans.

Parenthetically, I am so glad that I'm not about to go to a dinner party hosted by San Francisco progressives who are wondering who needs to take the blame for their inability to dig in for the long haul and take our country back from the plutocrats who are now running it. Just thinking about that conversation makes me want to gnaw my own arm off.

It is as though the left rejects reality ....

As to splitting the party racially, I'd not thought of that...it would look really bad for Dems to primary Obama. Its one thing to oppose him before he was elected, (even that was vilified) another to primary him as a sitting President.

Haha!  Don't go all 127 Hours on us, Claire.

One quick point...and I know I'm not breaking any new ground here...but it saddens me every time I hear or read about the percentages of blacks that support Obama (and liberals in general).  I don't have any ingenious answers or solutions, but the utter lack of any real conservative/Republican/Tea Party presence in the inner city (or in minority communities anywhere) is something we on the Center-Right absolutely must work to change.

There is an ancient Chinese curse: “may you get what you wish for.”

The far left kooks (Daily Kos, Salon, The Nation, The New York Times, AFL-CIO, NAACP, the list is endless…) had a filibuster proof Senate, a huge majority in the House, and the Presidency.  They’ve passed 80% of the left wing agenda.  And it didn’t work.  The economy hasn’t recovered, wars haven’t ended, and they are panicking.

Their impotence in the face of economic reality and utter denial that the American people disagree with them has officially driven them to mental illness.

As the great Margaret Thatcher once said, “the facts of life are conservative.”  And the left has been mugged by reality, thus their derangement becomes a parody of itself.

RJ, you are spot on, at least for the East and West Coasts. You can find more diversity in some cities, and, yes, there are Republican cities out there, but the Identity Politics meme of, it is the system that fails you, the racism, it isn't your fault you skipped school, did drugs, got arrested, had a baby at 12. That was the Man keeping you down. Vote for the meme! Vote yourself esteem. Vote for me!

Community organizer = Acorn = gaming the system to no ones benefit but your own sense of pride in manipulating others. A leader teaches people to fish. A community organizer teaches the people how to file the forms necessary to make someone else fish for you. Hmmm. Smells a lot like a Dhimmi thing. And, by the way, if you don't feed me you are racist/sexist/homophobic.

Run a country? These people couldn't run a Boy Scout camp out.

On the bright side, it would almost certainly taste better than the organically-grown Peruvian rabbit food that would be on offer at such a dinner party.

Dunno, Claire.  I'm all for masterly inactivity as a lifestyle, but couldn't this just be a stage of grief?  It hasn't been that long since the election, and they could well regroup in plenty of time for 2012.

I agree with both you and with "masterly inactivity."  The quote that summarizes what I think our attitude should be is what Col. William Moultrie supposedly told his soldiers during his defense of Sullivan's Island in 1776:  "Keep cool, and do mischief."

Hey, let's by all means have a lot more of those "courageous progressive" Congressional candidates!  Rahm got the House back in 2006 by recruiting strictly Blue Dogs (or those who could be sold as such).

I'm dreaming of a Dennis Kucinich running in every district.....

Plutocrats!!!

I have liberal friends who really believe that the country is run by a small group of evil rich people who don't pay their fair share of taxes.  When I ask how big is that the "small group?" the say it's 1%. When I point out that 1% is 1.3 MILLION people...do you really believe the country is run by 1.3 MILLION people who all agree?, they say, Outstripp, you are so naive.

It's hopeless to argue religion.
