Just received this email from Dave, and I'm sure he wouldn't mind my sharing it:
This just in: LSU's Tyrann Mathieu has been selected as one of five finalists for the Heisman. Way to geaux!

And Urban Meyer has come home to Ohio after stops in the West and South to teach the rest of the country how to play football.
Enjoy your dominance while it lasts, SEC.
Re: From Dave Carter, On the Road
If there were a Heisman for best nickname, he'd have it wrapped up. "Honey Badger"? I just love it.
Though Mathieu is phenomenal to watch, Dave and I will have to part company on this one. My vote would go to Baylor's extraordinary quarterback, Robert Griffin III.

Re: From Dave Carter, On the Road
I was excited about this as well. It's hard enough for a defensive player to get recognized, let alone a cornerback. As much as I hate the prospect of an SEC rematch, Mathieu's returns and turnovers are reason enough to watch.

That performance on Saturday was outstanding against Georgia. He deserves to be on the list. I'm still pullin' for Trent Richardson though.

Re: From Dave Carter, On the Road
I live for LSU football (my undergrad had no football so med school at LSU sealed it) and am upset I will not be able to geaux to the championship game. Alabama has a 50% chance of beating LSU so this is no cakewalk.
To be honest if I had to vote though I would give it to Griffin III as he personally won so many games for Baylor with such a poor supporting cast. With that said, Mathieu is plain electric and if Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson can do it then so can the Honey Badger.
Hot boudain
Cold cous cous
Geaux tigers!!!
Push push push
Yes that's a real cheer

Charles Woodson- 1997 Heisman winner from the University of Michigan; defensive back.
He's still playing as a successful cornerback in the NFL, as Packers fan Charlotte would know. :)

Re: From Dave Carter, On the Road
LSU's Tyrann Mathieu should not only be invited, but he should win the Heisman Trophy as the most valuable player to his team in 2011.
If you are going to beat LSU, a considerable challenge, you must punt away and block and contain the best college football player in 2011, Tyrann Mathieu.

Re: From Dave Carter, On the Road
How important is it that the player's team won their games? That will hurt Griffin's chances. Bama's only loss was to the #1 team in overtime by 3 points... and anyone who watched that game knows Bama beat themselves. That favors Trent Richardson.
Considering Mark Ingram won a Heisman and Richardson has put up even better numbers... well, I rest my case.
Mathieu certainly impressed in that last game, though.
Looking forward to the rematch! Hopefully, our Special Teams will actually be competitive this time around.
I hear the first LSU-Bama game was the most watched regular season game in decades. Will the rematch set a similar record?

Yes! And a punt returner too, though if I remember correctly it was more for his mad pick skills. I was hoping Amukamara would be in the running last year, but I guess you gotta be more than just a swatter.

From one Tiger to another... Geaux Tigers!
My Heisman vote goes to RGIII though.

Re: From Dave Carter, On the Road
Manning should have won the '97 Heisman, Woodson was taking cash and gifts from boosters, and should have been given the boot. Instead he wins the Heisman and a shared national title. In '07 ESPN essentially ran the campaign for Tebow as a sophomore to win the Heisman when it probably should have gone to McFadden. I know it is a nice distraction from politics but college football is becoming almost as sleazy as politics--too bad.

Missouri is entering the South and bringing a different tiger to the hunt . Ain't gonna be pretty.

Re: From Dave Carter, On the Road
He's a decent pick, and if not for his "ineligibility" issue, he might have a shot. If he can continue as he has, next year could certainly be the year of the Honey Badger.
(I would also have loved to have been a fly on the wall in the room when Les explained that it is very important to get the ball across the line before flipping it to the ref. ;-)

Re: From Dave Carter, On the Road
Why not go for the real Badger? 38 total touchdowns on the year and he leads the nation in rushing.
Oh, and he didn't even play in 6 different fourth quarters this year because the score was too lopsided.
Let's at least all agree that the Stanford guy is there based on media hype alone ;-)

Re: From Dave Carter, On the Road
I'm waiting for an offensive lineman to win the Heisman, so they can really have a "best college player" instead of "flashiest running back, quarterback, or receiver of the year".

Excellent point. Those guys have the toughest job in all of sports, both collegiately and professionally. (My fav pro OT Matt Light comes to mind).

He doesn't have "Touchdown Jesus" Tim Tebow to carry him anymore. No more free tatoos for the players. Good luck.
