Frist on the Fringe
As an erstwhile Tennessean, I have always given former Senator Bill Frist more of a break than he deserves. Yes, he was a milquetoast Republican totally unsuited for the Senate leadership. And yes, he has a tendency to go wobbly at the wrong time. But he's a decent man and as somebody who has been around a lot of politicians that still means something to me.
Unfortunately, it's not enough to compensate for his newest statement on ObamaCare, which is just flat bizarre. First, there's the rationale that, if consistently applied, would make the repeal of any bill anathema to Frist:
It is not the bill that [Republicans] would have written. It is not the bill that I would have drafted. But it is the law of the land and it is the platform, the fundamental platform, upon which all future efforts to make that system better, for that patient, for that family, will be based. And that is a fact. I know the discussion of Washington is repeal and I'm sure we will come back to that discussion...
Specious, but not wacky. Then the crazy train pulls into the station:
"[The bill] has many strong elements. And those elements, whatever happens, need to be preserved, need to be cuddled, need to be snuggled, need to be promoted and need to be implemented. But how do you do it? How do you do a lot of what is in this law?"
'Cuddled'? 'Snuggled'? We now know that there are two things that Bill Frist is incapable of managing: the Senate and verbs.

"[The bill] has many strong elements."
Well, Senator Frist, that may be -- but their odor isn't a mark of goodness.
Re: Frist on the Fringe
The idea of cuddling and snuggling with ObamaCare is revolting. What was Frist thinking? What verbs do you think he was going for before he got sidetracked thinking about kittens and teddy bears?

Re: Frist on the Fringe
Is Frist talking about healthcare or diaper rash ointment?
I can tell you one thing:
No real man ever uses the verbs "cuddle" and "snuggle" — even when he is bragging about his hot date the night before.

Judging by Frist's statements, I suspect that he took the "Blue Pill."

Darn. You beat me to it. I've always had pretty delayed comedic reactions :( I'm one of those who takes much longer to process the punch line of a joke, which means I often start laughing at the joke 15 - 20 seconds after everyone else has stopped laughing. Embarrassing.

You had the same idea independently, so it is all good. What difference does three minutes make?

I could have answered my own question and ruined it for everybody.

Re: Frist on the Fringe
Don't worry, former Ohio governor Ted Strickland will be there to help Frist along! Strickland, who had this bipartisan thing to say about Obamacare after its passage:
"I applaud Congress for standing up for Ohioans' right to affordable, quality health care. And I admire President Obama for his leadership in achieving comprehensive health care reform."
So this is what the Democrats consider "bipartisan:" ram through an awful bill and then, amid a chorus of continued outrage, smile as they tell us how to take our medicine. Shame on Bill Frist for providing political cover.

Shame on Bill Frist period! Is he trying to be a fool?

Former Senator...former Governor.
Let's keep it that way.

All of my Tennessee clan are more than literate. What is this man's excuse???
He was the Senate Majority Leader that lost the Senate to the Dems in 2006. Much becomes clear. And Strickland, hmmm. Let's put together a fact finding boondoggle to Tunisia. These great statesmen will never catch on.

Judging from what he said, perhaps Frist could use the "other" blue pill.

Frist may well be a decent man, but he is a lackluster and utterly un-inspiring politician.

I will hand it to Frist, however...he rarely wept openly.

Mmm... I now suspect those aren't the only things he has trouble managing...
It's a classic case of projection, innit? His slip is showing.

Lady K,
If the date was truly hot, cuddling and snuggling wouldn't have entered into it.

Actually, that's not true. If the hottie insists on limiting the date to cuddling and snuggling, then that's what it'll be. Or else somebody's gonna get a good smacking.

Re: Frist on the Fringe
If he were still alive, I would cast Leslie Nielsen as Senator Bill Frist. Cuddled and snuggled? Even Mork from Ork thinks you're from another planet Bill.
