Obama

I heard a pollster explain that one of the reasons it's so hard to oust an incumbent is that nobody likes to fire people. That's how many people view voting against a politician. I don't like to fire employees either but the whole point of democracy is that no one is guaranteed re-election, right? Anyway, here's some interesting news from Politico:

For the first time, a majority of Americans say President Barack Obama should be voted out of the White House next year, despite a small increase in the number of people who say the country’s economic outlook is improving, a new poll shows.

Fifty-two percent of those surveyed said the president should not get a second term in office – 43 percent said he should be reelected, according to the Associated Press-GfK poll.In May, 53 percent had said they were rooting for four more years of Obama, while 43 percent said they were opposed to his reelection.

In May, 53 percent had said they were rooting for four more years of Obama, while 43 percent said they were opposed to his reelection.

That's a pretty dramatic drop since May.

If I've got the trajectory right, he ought to be around 65% against re-election come late next summer. Sounds about right.

This brings me no comfort - I'm still afraid the GOP is going to blow it.

Just think of how low he would be if we had an honest press in this country.

Obama's approval ratings are actually still amazingly high, looking at the Real Clear Politics polling averages over the last week, getting up into the high forties in most of the surveys. It's unbelievable, really.

There is a glint of economic optimism, and its coming at just the right time for him.

I do worry what that post-Presidential career might be. He can continue to do damage to this country from some high post in the UN, some NGO, a think tank, etc.

With this president as an opponent, not even the Republicans could ... could ... oh well, better leave that one in the holster.
