Hello from the NR Cruise, where today we are just off the coast of Cuba, on our way to Jamaica (site of a Ricochet meet up at Evita's in Ocho Rios 12PM -- join us if you're in the neighborhood). For those of you who can't make it, here's Rob and Peter in front of Castro's Communist Worker's Paradise. "Mr. Castro, tear down this...cabaña!"

Are you sure that's not the coast of California?

Re: Fighting Communism On The Front Lines
Rob, Peter needs your sunglasses.
From each according to their means, to each according to their needs. When in Cuba, do as the Cubans do.

Why is Peter standing next to Philip Seymour Hoffman?

I guess Rob's out from under LA's "always a slight beard" cultural pressure.

Re: Fighting Communism On The Front Lines
I am very jealous. One of these days I will be able to afford the NR Cruise (and hopefully convince my girlfriend that it will be fun!)

Re: Fighting Communism On The Front Lines
Guys, if your intention is to fight communism, why not just stay home?

Re: Fighting Communism On The Front Lines
In retrospect, not sure a cruise, over water, was the best idea for NR folk at this point in time. Something on dry land, no hard surfaces, no sharp objects might have been better.
Peter looks vaguely like Ed Begley Jr. in the photo.

Re: Fighting Communism On The Front Lines
So are those who predicted a landslide below deck, rowing furiously to the pounding of a drum? And by the way, where's Lileks?
Re: Fighting Communism On The Front Lines
Good point!

Rob Long
Good point!
So, will Cuba become the 51st state during the next four years? It could replace California as the national bellweather.

Re: Fighting Communism On The Front Lines
Dare I suggest that Mr Robinson play Mr Roberts and Mr Long to play Ensign Pulver but that plant down on the deck looks like it needs some help...Doug Roberts: I looked down from our bridge and saw our captain's palm tree! Our trophy for superior achievement! The Admiral John J. Finchley award for delivering more toothpaste and toilet paper than any other Navy cargo ship in the safe area of the Pacific.
Ensign Pulver: Captain, it is I, Ensign Pulver, and I just threw your stinkin' palm tree overboard! Now what's all this crud about no movie tonight?
