Feminism Still Ruining Everything
I missed this Audi ad that ran during the Super Bowl, but it has caused quite the kerfuffle. See, it depicts rape, according to various feminists who have nothing real to worry about in the world.
I mean, really. I don't think I know of a man out there who doesn't wish he'd had more confidence to, well, surprise kiss the girl of his dreams. This is a charming little ad about how a great car can make you more confident. It might not be the most moral of messages, but it is advertising for a luxury product after all. Of all the things to criticize it for, being "rapey" is not one I'd emphasize.
As I said the last time feminists were up in arms over the iconic V-J Day kiss photograph, not every surprise kiss is sexual assault. Let's not over-think this.

I love the fact the a guy wrote the article. But I loved this commercial it reminded me of an 80's movie.

I hate the ad's connection of teenage masculinity/sexual prowess with fast cars, but given the feminists' idiocy, I'm thanking God for Madison Avenue.

Oh, yeah, here's a guy on the left cementing his feminist bonafides. Yawn. It is a cute ad. But I don't understand why the guy with the car didn't have a date of his own...
The creepy ad was the one where the guy was crawling around the bedroom looking for his stuff while trying to escape without greeting his hook-up in the morning. Ick. And apparently half-time, which I always skip.

Aw, geez. Is there anything more creepy than "male feminists"?

Yeah, I say let the feminists have their freak-out. The more they talk, the stupider they sound. They are our best argument.

Madison Avenue? Try Post Street in downtown San Francisco. Audi USA's advertising agency is Venables Bell & Partners. Do you think you're going to find a right wing misogynist there?
An FEC donor search finds nothing but donations to Babs Boxer and the Chicago Gang Leader known as the Prez.
And the company employs three broadcast producers, all of them *GASP* women.
I prefer it when the liberals eat their own.

Re: Feminism Still Ruining Everything
My girlfriend and me watched the Super Bowl at the home of two of our friends who also happen to be gay women. That ad was probably the favorite of the evening - everybody roots for the underdog, and everybody likes a little chutzspa. The closing shot of the kid driving home in exaltation with his black eye was the real crowd-pleaser. Who can't identify with that?

Yikes! So may we expect a mea culpa?

Re: Feminism Still Ruining Everything
I don't think most girls would actually like to have this happen to them, and most boys wouldn't do it, but it's a harmless fantasy that is kind of fun to see played out on the screen. These days there is a decided lack of romantic courage out there--little dating, etc. We need more men willing to take the lead in romance IMHO.

If the kiss was unwanted, the proper response is a slap across the face, not legal action, and certainly not boring the rest of us to death with talk of socially constructed power dynamics. We didn't do anything wrong.

Re: Feminism Still Ruining Everything
No mea culpa is likely. Even gender bending, bra-burning, feminists know how to sell cars. It turns out that selling sex appeal in car form works. Kudos to the advertisement agency that came up with that spot, it really is good.
I think we may safely observe that ideology has nothing to do with reality when it comes to a business strategy.

That columnist has got to be a meggings wearer... right?

Re: Feminism Still Ruining Everything
So how much praise would the agency be getting if the ad had portrayed the young man walking up and planting a big sloppy one on the prom king?

They're likely compensating, so it may well take a few kicks to find a useful target.

This is exactly the type of position that's gonna help us recruit voters to our side. Look how well it worked for Mourdock and Akin.

Yikes. This was one of my favorite commercials.
I totally "got" the commercial. The kiss was not unwanted. The narrative was there, you just had to fill in the blanks. Her boyfriend was a jerk. He was overbearing and she felt social pressure to date him because his dad was mayor or something and that's what her family wanted. The Audi kid and her had been flirting for months and there was obvious mutual attraction. She always wanted him to stand up to the boyfriend but he didn't have the guts. He never felt accepted by his father and his confidence was damaged as a result. When his dad gave him the keys to his Audi, it was the moment when he realized his dad believed in him all along and he made the move.
Geez, hasn't anyone here ever seen a John Hughes movie?

Sell an impractical car with an impractical fantasy. Sell a minivan by showing how much groceries you can haul or how the DVD system keeps the kids quiet.

Mollie, how many times have you been grabbed by strange men in public? How many times have you been grabbed and kissed by a strange man in public?
I don't believe for one minute, that you or any other woman is going to think this behavior is "ok", if it happened to you!
People reading here, what if it happened to your mother, daughter or sister? Do you notice that the kissing-boy in the video ends up with a black eye? That's not bravery! It's boorish and inappropriate behavior.
I've been felt-up, grabbed, kissed and all manner of unwanted physical contact from men, both in public and less-private settings. It is one of the most enraging, horrible things that I've experience in life. Does anyone here actually think it's "ok" to grab and touch, other people against their will?! If you're not in a relationship with someone, and they don't know you, or want to be touched by you...it's wrong!!
This is not a "feminist" issue. It's an issue of Right Vs Wrong behavior, in a civil society.
