The Obama white House and Janet Napolitano are trying to change the term “Federal Government” to "Federal Family.”

Does this strike anyone else as it does me, to send the message that the government is something of a mobster family?  (Paying taxes analogous to paying the mob for protection?)

I have heard our betters in Washington referred to as “Gangster government.”  I guess the Obamaites want to reinforce the mobster family image.

My Skept-o-Meter went off went I read your entry, so I had to turn to Madame Google to see what I could find.

Here is one commentary on this odd, dare I say, Orwellian, term.

The Obama administration didn’t invent the phrase but has taken it to new heights.

“Under the direction of President Obama and Secretary Janet Napolitano, the entire federal family is leaning forward to support our state, tribal and territorial partners along the East Coast,” a FEMA news release declared Friday as Irene churned toward landfall.

The G-word — “government” — has been nearly banished, with FEMA instead referring to federal, state and local “partners” as well as “offices” and “personnel.”

. . .

The phrase “federal family” has been used in connection with FEMA at least as far back as 1999.

But do you know what phrase also jumped out at me? "Leaning forward." Looks like the White House is signifying their coordination with MSNBC by utilizing their slogan, eh?

Glenn Beck suggested this morning that the shift in terminology is a Cass Sunstein influenced nudge.  It comes as a surprise to me to see the term going back to 1999 in connection with FEMA.

It's what leftists want to do and now they are openly declaring it. They are the patrons - the daddies and mommies, we are the children who will be told what to do, what to think, how to behave, and we will be disciplined accordingly.

They wish to destroy the real family and substitute government. Many leftists come from dysfunctional families and they have a need for family - just not their family.

When Neil Cavuto mentioned this new terminology yesterday, all I could think was sure the federal government could be viewed a family, a completely DYSFUNCTIONAL family.

I work for the government. I'm not your little brother. I'm your servant. I don't do a good job out of some familial emotion. I do it out of duty and because I swore an oath to do it. NTACs, the whole administration.

The brings new flavor to the quip, "One doesn't choose their family."

I don't want Janet Napolitano in my family!

I guess they want us to visit them, like family, after they get caught and go to prison. No thanks.

I've got a family, thanks. I don't want or need a "federal family."

Loved what King prawn offered earlier, btw.

I've got some weeding to do this weekend.  Which members of my new big family will be here to help?

Just par for the course for the commies...

Big Brother, Uncle Joe, Uncle Barry, what's the difference?

This is a subtle evil indeed.

I can just see shifts ahead.  You don't "elect" family, so why bother with elections in 2012?  Chavezistas, here we come...

If I lose my job, can I move into the Obamas' basement until I get back on my feet?

Sorry, Skippy, but the family is a little short this week. I've heard good things about the Chinese though, and their labor camps are supposed to be top-notch.

Government is NOT family. I cannot make myself believe they are serious.

For over a year on Ricochet I have preferred the term "FERAL GOVERNMENT".

Perhaps the term "FERAL FAMILY" rings equally true.

And Obama's immigration policy isn't amnesty, but "adoption."

Websters root definition of Family. The earliest references are from the 15th century.

Middle English familie, from Latin familia household (including servants as well as kin of the householder), from famulus servant.

Work with that thought for a while...
