Faux Live Chat: Michigan and Arizona edition
Please come and join the conversation as the results pour in. As Michigan is a very open primary, Democrat members are particularly welcome. ;-)
Edit: it appears that most of the conversation will be about Michigan, where the overall result is still in doubt, and the Delegate count is even more in the air...
And as I type this, ABC calls Michigan for Romney. And now AP is.... and now FOX. The Delegate count is awarded (almost certainly) one at large delegate each to Santorum and Romney, with each Congressional District awarding 2 delegates to its winner. You can find the District map here, and the results by county here.

Do these results already include the early voting?

Palaeologus: I'm really surprised at how easily Rick is winning Eaton Co., and equally surprised at how small Paul's vote totals are in the Greater Lansing area. The man had a rally 4,000 strong in East Lansing yesterday.
Maybe his supporters forgot which day the election took place... · 3 minutes ago
I'm surprised by the Paul showing, too. He's not broken 15.3% in any county. In an open primary. With a low turnout. With endless media commentary about how little the electorate like the two front runners. He might not even manage to double Gingrich's score.

Santorum won the Dem vote 53% to 17% over Romney. They split the independent vote evenly and Romney dominated among Republicans, 47% to 37%.
Not good numbers for Santorum I would say. The dem vote seems to obviously be an attempt to promote a weaker candidate for the general.

If Fox's exit polls are accurate, Romney wins MI by 4 points.

Michigan has a lot of conservative Democrats, and Santorum's manufacturing and housing policies seem aimed at attracting big government social conservative votes. Romney isn't promising anything to attract them, and his attacks on labor and the overwhelming endorsement of the Michigan GOP seem likely to bring out the Democrat vote to oppose him. Santorum's calls for Democrats to vote for him seem mostly interested in positive votes.
It's true that the Democrat machinery is supporting Santorum out of jerkiness, but for the most part I'd have thought that the blue vote was legitimately Rick's.

What did you bait yours with tonight? (I prefer garlic.)

Re: Faux Live Chat: Michigan and Arizona edition
Not so sure that's entirely true, MJ. Even as a Romney guy, I confess Santorum has crossover appeal. How much, I'm not sure -- but it definitely exists.

The Dems were lazy/ uninterested James.
This is nothing like 2000. Heck, there is only 1 "Recall Snyder" sign left in my entire neighborhood. They would have crawled over broken glass to embarrass Engler in his third term.
The college kids woke up in Ingham Co., Paul is up to almost 14%.

Huge amount of garlic in the ratatouille I had for dinner. Too much really. Another little penance.
I hadn't even noticed the typo. It comforts me that Jonah has this problem with homonyms too.

Re: Faux Live Chat: Michigan and Arizona edition
Take a look at the returns from Hillsdale county in Michigan. It appears that over 50% of the vote is going to candidates no longer in the race.
And not five minutes later, results are corrected to show a Romney/Santorum dead heat. Weird.

JoE, Would you mind adding a few one line updates to the body of your post? That way we can move this conversation over to the Main Feed and the lazy souls who troll the site can skim the information they're looking for.

Re: Faux Live Chat: Michigan and Arizona edition
I could see Santorum appealing to socially conservative, blue collar whites. I just don't get why so many would come out for him, when Obama has been the most pro-union president in decades and is so focused on stimulus jobs, which include a lot, I mean a lot, of blue-collar infrastructure jobs.
What's more, I think if Santorum were truly just charming Reagan-Democrat types, he would also be winning the independent vote. I'll bet more of the white blue-collar types that Santorum would appeal to would call themselves independent, rather than Democrat. I could see Romney doing better with the independents then he does with crossover Dems, but I would still think that Santorum would take the independent vote, if he were truly pulling the type of voter you and James are talking about. Romney is splitting the independent vote, though.

I remember when McCain won Florida in 2008. I immediately said to my wife that McCain was going to be the nominee. I'm having the same feeling now about Romney. He's beat back the Santorum threat.

CNN just called it for Romney.

Anthony: I had that same feeling after NH; then came SC. I had it again after FL; then came CO and MN. You might be right, but personally I am sooooo done making predictions. (Also, Santorum is up ten or so in OH with only a week to go.)

So a win in Michigan equals what? Momentum? Money? It's certainly not enough delegates to call the race.

And Santorum isn't the type to fold up his tent and go home, is he?
