You may think that the Fast and Furious scandal is about the Department of Justice intentionally permitting the illegal sale of firearms to Mexican drug cartels, resulting in hundreds of Mexican deaths and the murder of one US law enforcement official.  You might also think that there is something of a coverup underway, inasmuch as Eric Holder has strung out Rep. Darrel Issa's committee, refusing to produce subpoenaed documents for the better part of two years.  You may even believe that the sweeping assertion of executive privilege by the president the other day adds a faint aroma of Nixon to the air.

You would be wrong.  This is really all about Republicans attacking Mr. Holder because they want to prevent him from impeding state efforts to suppress the vote in this November's election.  In a word:  Racism.  Got that?

Don't believe me?  Listen to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi explain it for you in her usual winning style.

But I, skeletor, have now exposed the evil racist republicans and their vote stealing ways. When I gesticulate more you know its the truth.

Congressman Trey Gowdy of South Carolina responded perfectly to this last night.

Republican defenders on TV need to reiterate every chance they get that Holder has been caught lying to Congress four times, so the notion that Congress should trust his judgment of what files are and are not relevant to their concerns is absurd.

The really sad thing is that this explanation will make sense to 48% of the citizenry.

I think Nancy Pelosi has confused the Department of Justice with the Borg.  In Star Trek they reckoned that killing the Borg Queen would render all the lesser Borg inoperative.  The DoJ doesn't work like that, Nancy.  Even if the evil Republicans could get Eric Holder to resign, there would be a new Attorney General.

The most troubling thing about this is that Nancy Pelosi keeps getting re-elected. It takes some spectacularly dumb people to keep re-electing someone like Pelosi.

The stammering brings to mind a choice Pelosi-ism regarding ObamaCare and the Constitution:  "Are you serious?  Are you serious?"

But We must investigate due to the "seriousness of the charge."

Flipping through the channels last night I learned from MSNBC also that the only reason for me to oppose Holder is his race.

The name Brian Terry didn't come up.

Wow.

As a citizen of the People's Republic of Maryland, I can assure you that anyone who leans on Elijah Cummings for moral authority is already on shaky ground.

In any case, it appears that Rep. Pelosi believes that she can shout "Squirrel!" and we'll all turn to look at ludicrous claims of voter suppression.

Somehow, the Botox seems to have broken through Ms Pelosi's blood-brain barrier - I didn't know that was possible.

The House has been trying to get the F&F documents for two years. Mr. Holder has been obstructing Florida's voter roll cleanup efforts for only a month or so. So according to Pelosi, the Repubs are really brilliant, having instituted a blocking strategy 22 months before it was needed! Do they really think we are that stupid?

Whoa - I though Pelosi's position was that Republicans are stupid.

Even Leno jokes about it

"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi now says the CIA and President Bush misled her on waterboarding. Yeah. Apparently she was misled by the Bush Administration. So she spends eight years telling everybody how dumb President Bush is, and the minute they're in trouble, 'He fooled me! I had no idea! He tricked me!'" --Jay Leno

While I think it's important for people to know the differences between Wide Receiver and Fast and Furious, stuff like this doesn't help.  President Bush shut down Wide Receiver personally?  I don't think that's accurate.  The number of guns walked in Wide Receiver is about 450, as far as I can tell.  Here's a report that citizens need to be reading.
