"I don't think La Jolla (Cove fireworks) should happen this year -- or ever," Gonzalez said.

It’s official. Environmentalists (and lawyers) hate America, apple pie, and 4th of July celebrations.

Environmentalists sued the fireworks shows' organizers and the city, contending the permitting process failed to follow the guidelines of the California Environmental Quality Act. They said the fireworks are shot off next to a marine sanctuary, generating debris that harms sea life.

The ruling potentially means that all organizers of fireworks shows in San Diego will have to file environmental impact reports before receiving city permits. Because of the costs involved, that could put the shows out of business.

At what point will there be civil disobedience, or even some unfortunate violence, by the American people against this environmental extremism? The most fertile land in the nation, San Joaquin Valley in California, has been enduring a man-made drought for almost 2 years in order to “save” a minnow in San Francisco Bay. Do you fear a tipping point for action / protest? Is it already hopeless?

If I had to live in a government mandated dust bowl at the expense of my livelihood and my family's quality of life, I'd have already made a move.

Happily, I live in the middle of nowhere in MO, where we are still left to our own devices (more or less).

Apparently, the people of the central valley have much cooler head than I.

Not sure if that's a good thing or not though.

Working on it, I am considering Texas. My only hope now for this once great state I have spent so much of my life in is that our inevitable collapse proves sufficient warning for other parts of the Union. Perhaps our horrendous example can have a salubrious effect on legislatures throughout the nation and the rot engenedered from environmentalism run mad can finally be stopped.

Believe me that this lawyer and his fellow crusaders are reviled and despised by just about everyone including the local lefties.  Only the most die hard environuts are backing this.  Not only does the ruling apply to fireworks it also applies to outdoor use permits for example kiddie parties on local parks.  It is beyond ridiculous.

I appreciate being given the benefit of the doubt, but in my hypothetical, I own the ground, and have for a long time (like those folks in the central valley).

That being the case, picking up and moving isn't really an option, because dry ground out west is worse than useless, in that it's worthless but still has giant property tax bill attached.

No, the move I meant would have been to foment rebellion.

The way I see it, if five or ten thousand armed people descend upon a pumping station and demand that it be turned back on (or just commandeer it and do the deed yourself), nobody is going to do anything.

The lefties will screech about the rule of law, but if the local cops are on the farmer's side, they'd have to ship in feds to retake the place.

I'd say the odds are better than even that the farmers win the day, because even the most virulently anti-constitutional Feds don't want to deal with another Ruby Ridge or Waco in this age of instant communication and omnipresent video.

At some point, you just have to show them that you don't recognize their authority anymore.

Put it another way, if a man from the government came to your home and told you that a judge had ordered you to kill yourself, would you do it?  Of course not.

So why would you set idly while the same thing is done to your land and livelihood?

If this is truly the case, disregard the thing.  Have your 4th of July fireworks and dare the judge to send federal troops to enforce his ruling.

It is about time that we stop letting one or two nuts control the whole of the population with one file folder full of paper.

They've just made a ruling that cannot be enforced in any meaningful way, disregard it and force them to try and stop you.

Sadly, this is but the latest chapter in the environmentalist war on society and progress in San Diego (as well as a host of other cities).  Freeway projects have been delayed for 10+ years and now this lunacy thanks to all of the enablers who are trying to appease a noisy minority.  The powers that be figure that 'it couldn't hurt' to require environmental studies.  The costs involved don't matter because it's not the decision makers money at stake.  There needs to be a shift towards sanity and simplifying red tape while giving the environment its due without going overboard.

Thanks for passing this along, Ken. I do like to stay abreast of evidence that the world is ending.

Also, kudos to Pike for alerting us to round one of this outrage a couple of days ago.

It's not the country; it's California -- a California law and a California court.

Won't be long before the 'progressives' pressure The Hague to declare the United States to be "unsustainable", "a threat to the environment", a "hazard to children", and "guilty of war crimes". Wait, that already happened...

I reject violence and any action that would harm people.  Not to get all “Glenn Beck” on Ricochet, but I do fear that something will happen when liberties and freedoms are eroded to such a point where people hit a breaking point.

Liberals want violence to happen so that they can crack down even more on our civil liberties.  We must fight this insanity with common sense, ridicule, disdain, and anger.

Is it really just California?  There are Obama-appointed judges across the entire federal bench.

When people are resigned to being ruled by their government, and when governments run rough-shod over them, that is when tyrannies flourish.

The true question being, just how far will this go ?

The issue of cow flatulence and carbon taxes therein was beyond absurd.

Whats next ? Flatulent police in elevators ? This is getting beyond anything that can be dismissed as amusing..

Liberals are currently in charge of this country, and deeply embedded in our federal power structure. California is America's DEW Line, a harbinger of what's to come.

These jerks don't recognize any limit on their power. It is past time for freeborn people to start pushing back against regulations that were not put into law by their elected representatives. It's way past time for elected officials to nullify regulation not arrived at through democratic process.

Let a thousand Class B pyrotechnics explode in the night.

I hope you're right, but I have a bad feeling that this may make the donations flood in, and give them even more resources to file lawsuits.
