There is no public carnival so vulgar that it cannot be made more so by the participation of Gloria Allred.  She has now, in representing a woman claiming to be another “victim,” thrust herself into the midst of the Herman Cain sexual harassment opera.  The only surprise is that it took so long.  Another reason to turn off the television.

Has Gloria ever actually won a case? Or does she just show up?

Did you watch the press conference where the woman made her accusations on camera?

Even if she's lying, Cain's done.  That clip will replay endlessly.

People were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt when the accusers were anonymous and no details were being released.

Now, with a live accuser and specific salacious details, I declare that he's mortally wounded.

I'm gonna drink heavily tonight.

Is this what we have come to? Any salacious allegation no matter its' providence, no matter it's veracity is the end for a conservative? If we accept that that is the case Misthiocracy it is not the end of Mr. Cain's campaign it is the end of the Republic.

If it's salacious enough, and the accuser is willing to stand by their accusation, then yeah, I think it's a fair bet. There is no "innocent until proven guilty" in the court of public opinion.

Another fair statement.

Here is my question, if Cain, or anyone in a similar situation for that matter, got on camera and on mic a called her a no nonsense liar...what then?

Not good enough. Nothing less than completely destroying her credibility within the next 24 hours will do.

Seriously, watch the video from the press conference. Her performance is devastating.

I hope to be proven wrong.

No, the accuser's performance when she says out loud what she claims Cain did.

I'd repeat the accusation, but I think it violates the C of C.

Going to Gloria Allred as the conduit for your story doesn't add credibility to it.  Nevertheless, it can't be dismissed out of hand either.  Perhaps Cain should ask that she be given a lie detector test or submit himself to one.  That is perhaps the only way the truth will surface.

I watched the statement and there was a point that didn't make sense.  She said that when they were sitting in the car, he asked her why she was there and she told him about needing his help to find a job.  Now, they had spoken on the phone before she traveled to NYC so why didn't the subject come up then?   They had drinks before going to dinner, so why during both those instances did not the subject arise?  Some inferences can be drawn, tho we'll probably never know for sure.  The media will be there to instruct just how we are to think about this, Miss Gloria leading the way...

That wouldn't be enough, and I think it would be ridiculed as a PR stunt.

If her accusations are categorically false, Cain must sue her for slander.  Anything less will be interpreted in the press as a virtual admission of guilt.

Either way, he's damaged, since a lawsuit would distract him from the campaign trail. He's in a no-win situation.

All IMHO, of course.  I reiterate that I hope I'm proven wrong, but I'm an eternal pessimist.

Why didn't she make this complaint years ago when it happened? That's what I didn't understand. I haven't seen the video so pardon me if it answers my question.

To make matters worse, two anonymous women claimed that Cain beat them senseless with a frozen turkey. His campaign is falling apart!

So, who benefits? Will Newt, who screwed up first, be the first to recover and become the serious not-Romney?

Maybe Cain is the one to bring the madness to an end. Allred's last : a maid who worked for Meg Whitman unhappy with her Christmas present or some nonsense.

Wonder if Cain has the cojones to tell it like it is and shift the emphasis from the MSM to another media that could get the word out.

Let's look at the reason they pulled the Allred card, they think they actually have some momentum. Maybe that is a mistake, Cain raised bigger money in the face of the primary accusations. His polling numbers didnt suffer. That sure feels like shared disbelief of the media claptrap.

Now problems, first is lapse of discomfort- why now ?

Second, What is her payoff ?

Third, why the Friar's Club and the joke about the Stimulus Package ? Cheeky .

This woman looks like someone who has had many passes made at her and a brushoff rather than filing a claim becomes second nature. She can write this narrative from memory.

The scientific basis for the so-called "lie detector" test is a complete farce; total psychological theater.  Take a dose of metoprolol or any other beta blocker beforehand and your physiologic responses will stay flat as a pancake. All the squiggly lines are there merely to provide the illusion of science backing another form of "enhanced interrogation technique."

Oh, I believe her.

When I'm looking for a job, I never just make a phone call or send a letter or simply ask for a meeting in a guy's office during normal working hours.

Instead, I let him know I'm going to be all by myself in a hotel, all night.   Then, I agree to drinks and dinner.

I mean, that's the way it's done, right?

Okay, I watched the news conference. Parts of it seem authentic. Parts of it seem overly rehearsed or scripted. I was hoping I could find an obvious tell; there are a couple things here and there that have a false ring about them.

And of course, the presence of Gloria Allred makes the whole thing of questionable origin.

But it should be noted that she was not in any way his employee. She was just a woman that Herman Cain might have hit on in a disgusting fashion. If he did it, that's sleazy, but it's not lawsuit material. Which again makes me wonder what Gloria Allred is doing there.
