Now everyone knows that would-be Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren falsely claimed to be Native American in the Harvard Law School directory, so as to boost the school's (and her) minority street-cred.  (In a separate thread, member Amy Schley's makes the wonderful suggestion that Warren's Indian name is "Sits with Tenure." Or possibly "Dances with Quotas.")

But it gets better.  Warren now explains that she lied about her ethnic status in an attempt to make new friends!   “I listed myself in the directory in the hopes that it might mean that I would be invited to a luncheon, a group something that might happen with people who are like I am,” she said.  Pathetic, yes, but also confusing.  "People who are like I am?"  What does she mean?  Does she mean she hoped to meet other white people pretending to be Indians?  Or is she claiming that (a) Native Americans are likely "progressive" like her; but (b) they generally keep to themselves, so only by pretending to be a Cherokee would she get invited to the best liberal pow-wows?  How patronizing can you get?

Is this having any impact on the poll numbers in Massachusetts?

I do feel the need to confess that I've stolen a few of these from Ann Althouse's commentors.

A few weeks ago I successfully snuck into the Lummi community breakfast out at the casino.  Now, I'm over 6 feet tall and as white as white gets.  This little short native woman looked up at me as I was going in and said "Tribal only!"  I just ignored her and went in anyway.

The back story:  my wife is a card carrying member of the tribe and we have two native american foster kids.  Lummi Children's Services likes their foster parents to take the kids out to the community breakfast so they can experience their heritage.  The breakfast is held in a large ball room at the casino, and consists of scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit, juice, etc.  Then everyone just sits around and talks about each other.  Based on that, I would guess we are all native american, to one degree or another.

This morning I see that Elizabeth Warren said she remembers her grandmother's high cheekbones. Well there it is ! All Indians have high cheekbones.

Sort a broad brush there Professor ? High cheekbones, war paint, and the only word they know is "how" ? What a racist idiot this overpaid poseur is.  For a minute I thought she might related to another famous indian : Ward Churchill .

High cheekbones....maybe there's a link..

high cheekbones

Don't suppose that Han Chinese qualify ? Here is a good respresentation of a typical Han characteristic. High cheekbones.

But then I'm not a Harvahd professor.

That's hilarious, Ken! And so true. My sister and I were just saying to each other that being born American is like winning the lottery of life.

flownover, the one foster kid says that all Native Americans look like "chinamen."  Except for him.  He says he doesn't look Chinese but most all natives do.  So I call him the little chinaman.  I like to get his goat.  Except he doesn't have any goats because he's not chinese.

Oh yeah... nothing like seeing the scold who wagged her finger at all those bad men getting it right back.

I'll bet the MA Dem machine would like to pull a Torricelli right about now!

More proof that affirmative action makes one lazy.  Warren didn't even bother to stay in character.

She ain't no Kirk Lazarus.

I've always thought of Indians as aborigines, rather than as natives.  How many generations of one's family must be born in this country to become native Americans?

The things I have not written are far worse.  I worked on a rez in Montana for a month and the younger locals were so hard on themselves with self-deprecating humor it made even me uncomfortable.

On another note, at the time I was in fantastic shape and played hoops with the native Americans and they ran me in to the ground.  That never happened in any inner city games in New Orleans or So Cal.

Another side note is that I saw a jaundiced man whose last name was Yellow Eyes.  Not an exaggeration.

I wonder how the Harvard admissions office would feel about a student who checked "Native American" on her application and was later determined to be 1/32 Indian.

Does it never occur to lefties that their obsession with race and quotas inevitably leads to distasteful, Jim Crow-like assessments of the "purity" of citizens' blood?  It also leads to abuse, confusion, and distortion of objectives.  I knew a white Rhodesian who credibly described himself as an African-American.  Barack Obama's daughters have no ancestors that experienced slavery or racism in this country, but even if their father hadn't attained prominence, they would have benefited from racial preferences.  Why should a black child of privilege have preference in college admissions over a poor, white kid?

A wise man, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, once said: "The way to stop discriminating by race is to stop discriminating by race."

So I guess Elizabeth Warren should get a pay cut, or be fired since she is 1/32nd Cherokee persecutor?
