Eliot Mess
And they said it wouldn't last . . .
CNN's just announced that it's through with its Eliot Spitzer experiment -- the former governor formerly known as "Client 9" is losing his talk show after a nine-month run . . . and, in all probability, ending his stay at the network.
(If CNN canned him in written form, would that make it a "Dear John" letter . . . ?)
CNN's statement didn't quite close the door -- the network says it's "in discussions with Eliot Spitzer about an alternative role."
Spitzer sang a different tune in his farewell statement:
We engaged serious people in conversations about national and global issues in a way that was informative and challenging. I believe that we provided diverse and valuable perspectives during the show's tenure. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at CNN.
So I have to ask: was this the worst hire in cable-news history (keeping in mind there's been many a quick flameout)?
What's CNN's next move in its quest to be something that's not Fox News, not MSNBC?

Re: Eliot Mess
One word: Weiner.
He has the same unhinged indignity and hatred of all things conservative as Olbermann, coupled with the Spitzer - how to put this politely - ewww factor.

Re: Eliot Mess
This is great news. It was in such bad taste for CNN to have him on in the first place. I don't know what his motivations are, but he must have been making a killing working in real estate, as he was between his jobs as governor and TV show host. Unless he is really, really addicted to the spotlight, I don't see any reason why he should stay away from real estate. The market's gotta pick up at some point, and with smart Manhattan real estate investments, he will, without a doubt, be sitting on a pile of cash higher than any of his former political opponents'. Others whose personal foibles have brought about their own political implosions can't boast the same opportunities Eliot's got.
