with me where I am

Wow, that was far too short! Glad to hear what there was of this podcast, however. Thank you Judith.

I have some friends living in Israel, and this podcast really helped me make sense of what they've been talking about.

Although Yair Lapid is new to politics as a career, it should be borne in mind that his late father, Yosef "Tommy" Lapid, was a politician, holding the offices of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice.  He was chairman of the Shinui (it means change, difference or transformation) party which had some success in the Knesset but ultimately split up into smaller factions.

Yair Lapid does seem to "get it".  To learn what he's about, I recommend watching this speech which lasts around 40 minutes.  He raises matters that are important and need to be addressed, and if he gets his political act together and sits in a suitable coalition (signs seem to be that this could happen) he might well be able to make a useful difference.

Personally, I think that given his agenda, he'd be more effective as finance minister, but his general affability, appearance, Menschlichkeit if you want, may well mark him for the post of foreign minister.  It's true that he's likely to get on well with his foreign counterparts, but I do think that the domestic issues are more important than how he interacts, say, with John Kerry.
