Dueling Headlines, Robert Gibbs Edition

Facebook may be committing its first marketing stumble: Robert Gibbs to Work for Facebook?
And now Docs Warn About Facebook Depression. Coincidence?
They say they want him for their "communications team." I'm hoping they mainly want him for his lobbying pull. Because if you want someone with any talent whatsoever for communications, Gibbs isn't your guy. Surly, dismissive obfuscation isn't the skill-set needed for customer service in the private sector.
When you get nailed by Helen Thomas, you're not good at communications.

Just in time for campaign season.

Re: Dueling Headlines, Robert Gibbs Edition
You know what? This is uncanny because just yesterday, I've not been able to log on to Facebook from my Kindle. AND updating my FB status from my mobile phone has stopped working. This is intentional, methinks, since my listed political bent is "decidedly conservative"...

Well, if you write in to complain, and you get the response "um, I don't know about that specifically, I'll, uh, have to follow up on that, and um, you should stop getting your questions from, uh, Fox News talking points" then we'll know something's up.

If you will recall, the initial statements were that Gates was leaving so that he could work on BHO's reelection campaign. Has anyone forgotten how important new media was to the 2010 campaign? This is merely prepositioning of an important asset in a place where he can have the greatest effect. Wake up people!!!

If you need to make excuses for your own lack of transparency, hire Gibbs to make excuses for his not knowing the answer. He'll get back to you with the answer in about five years, when it doesn't matter anymore.

Re: Dueling Headlines, Robert Gibbs Edition
I just have to say it ...
Does anyone else find it a little creepy that Facebook is credited with accelerating the uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia, etc., and then ... who starts to work there but a former operative of the White House? I mean, if you wanted to plant someone to protect yourself and manipulate the next election ... where better to plant him?
If you were writing the next version of the Manchurian Candidate, wouldn't this be one of the obvious plot devices?

Re: Dueling Headlines, Robert Gibbs Edition
This complicates it even more: Headline News..."Saudi King to buy Facebook for $150 billion to end the revolt: Goldman Sachs to advise".
Kidding aside, there's generally a seed of truth in humor. With 51% of Americans over 12 on Facebook, Lee and KC are right to say we should be alarmed.

Re: Dueling Headlines, Robert Gibbs Edition
Every time I saw Gibbs at a press conference fumbling his way through the talkin points I mourned the loss of Tony Snow again.

Snow to Gibbs: from the sublime to the ridiculous.
My daughter, a couple of years, created a Facebook page for me, which I've never been on since. Now that I know Gibbs is at Facebook, I think I'll cancel myself. I'd rather have real friends anyway.

Re: Dueling Headlines, Robert Gibbs Edition
Good point from the dashingly caped Chattanoogan gentleman.
Think of Gibbs as Tacitus wrote of Caius Petronius (66 AD):
Or, think of the corporate acquisition of Gibbs as a now mandatory payment of tribute—i.e. protection money—to the Washington thugs’ hostile take-over of American business.
