Dogophobia
Never trust a millionaire who wants to raise your taxes. Never trust a politician who hates dogs:
Lawmakers in Tehran have recently proposed a bill in parliament that would criminalize dog ownership, formally enshrining its punishment within the country's Islamic penal code. The bill warns that that in addition to posing public health hazards, the popularity of dog ownership "also poses a cultural problem, a blind imitation of the vulgar culture of the West." The proposed legislation for the first time outlines specific punishments for "the walking and keeping" of "impure and dangerous animals," a definition that could feasibly include cats but for the time being seems targeted at dogs.
If the West was known for stoning or hanging dogs who had relations without the consent of their father and brother, it would be a different issue.

Re: Dogophobia
The mullahs hate us so much they'll kill their people's pets? One hopes deeply that the Iranian people soon overthrow these lunatics that impose such lunacy upon them.

If ever there were a litmus test for membership in the Axis of Evil, anti-dog legislation would be it.
Now cats are a different issue.

Re: Dogophobia
No doubt the infernal beasts could be rendered less objectionable by draping them all in monochrome attire--lest they provoke an ungodly excess of dogophilia.

Re: Dogophobia
Well perhaps Allah will judge them accordingly, and reward the Mullahs' stupidity, and all intrusive control of the people.
I await the plagues of rats, and associated diseases that usually follow the removal of scavenger animals such as cats or dogs. No doubt the Mullahs recall what happened when London removed its dogs and cats during the bubonic plague, as they suspected our dumb chums of being unclean and carrying disease.
Yersinia anyone?

Re: Dogophobia
Perhaps we in the West could start keeping pet pigs. Hopefully that influence will also rub off.

When dogs are outlawed only infidels will have dogs.

Okay, I can take them hating me for being a Jew, but my dogs? They don't even practice. I'm with Talleyrand, a plague upon their houses.

Well, perhaps Iran can sell their dogs to China, where they're considered to be a delicacy.

Re: Dogophobia
I just told my three dogs--two Scotties and one Wheaton Terrier--about this proposed legislation. They were very upset--and when a dog is upset, the carpet cleaner rejoices.
We'll be going for a walk later. If they see a mullah today, I can't be held responsible for what happens. It could get ugly.

Re: Dogophobia
How is dog ownership a vulgar practice of the West when for millennia peoples of the Middle East have bred and used dogs for hunting? The Afghan hound has its silky coat as protection against the claws of the lions it was bred to chase.
The Iranian regime is the most hypocritical of all in this regard: they claim to be pious Islamicists, but they revere the culture of ancient Persia. Note how they took umbrage at the movie '300' and its depiction of the Persian emperor as an effeminate hedonist. (I suppose humankind can be grateful for the hypocrisy in one way: the Taliban in Afghanistan had the courage of their convictions and were willing to eradicate ancient relics of pre-Islamic cultures.)
