Does This Mean Anything For Obama?
Over the weekend, Team Romney kept pointing out something about the crowd sizes President Obama was getting for his first campaign appearances. Here's a sample from a launch event at The Ohio State University.
The Columbus Post-Dispatch reported:
In a 37-minute speech, the president reminded the audience that he inherited a severe economic crisis and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, saying the country now is more secure.
The rally was one the Buckeye men’s basketball team might have envied, with the revved up audience repeatedly chanting "four more years."
But the event fell short of the 20,000 supporters the campaign had forecast as organizers moved people from seats to the arena floor in front of the dais to project fullness to television audiences. Obama volunteers had worked feverishly over the last week to gin up a crowd, making multiple calls to residents believed to be supportive of the president.
Even the New York Times said, of these campaign events, "At times, the rallies had the feeling of a concert by an aging rock star ..."
Looks like the frenzied, emotional support surrounding Obama in 2008 will be difficult to sustain, even among the normally reliable media and youth.

Yeah...except the difference is Romney's been competin' against a handful of opponents for the past year. Obambi's been unopposed and governing for 3+ years. And still can't fill up a phone booth. · 1 hour ago
I see. So you think that now that the primaries are over, Mitt Romney, with his stunning charisma and sterling record of accomplishments (Is that the right word for Romneycare?), will now now set the public afire with a burning passion for him?

Re: Does This Mean Anything For Obama?
I predict that the MSM will report that the president's campaign is booking "more intimate" venues in order for the president to have "closer interaction" with attendees.
It's a classic, well-worn talking point for musicians who once filled stadiums but whose popularity is starting to wane.
"I sincerely don't like playing huge stadiums. I really prefer performing in clubs. It's so much more intimate, and you really get to make a connection with the audience."

I was going to express the wish that maybe the embarrassment of empty seats would cool Obama's campaign jets, and then I read
I'll bet this is spot on.

They are there, they all fainted when he started to speak. Check the floor.

I also predict that words along the lines of, "with so many people turned away due to lack of space, the campaign should have booked a larger venue," will become common.

Larry Koler:
October surprises and Alinskyite destruction pieces on Romney will finish out the election year.
The use of race has also not even been tried and won't if Obama has a sure victory in sight. Never forget that this 2nd term election is the base strategy of pushing this Manchurian novice into the presidency. This is the very reason they wanted Obama. And other than Breitbart's approach to go after them in a Gingrich way we have no chance against them because the conservative elites don't seem to have a clue how to fight the juggernaut that is coming. · 8 hours ago
I think you're underestimating the Romney campaign's willingness to go after Obama. They've made it pretty clear that they will not play nice - we will see how well the media will spin their attacks, and pretend that only one side is guilty. The phrase "politics of personal destruction" will be repeated again and again, and the civility meme will be resurrected. I'm sure Team Romney will have a few October surprises of their own.

I hope you are right - seriously.
Remember I was for Newt over Mitt and I didn't think Newt could beat Obama either -- but that's all because of what I am pretty sure is coming and the effectiveness of the left (already proven big time) and the questionable effectiveness of Mitt. I'm only saying it is questionable until I see some proof. All we have seen so far is that we know Mitt will go hammer-down on Republicans but we don't know how careful he's going to be with Obama. Careful might be fine, he might win, I just don't see it yet and I believe going nuclear will be the only way.
