suitcase

Police in Chetumal, Mexico, released this picture that they say demonstrates that a woman attempted to smuggle her common-law husband out of jail in a suitcase following a conjugal visit.

Apparently the alert prison staff noticed that the lady was nervous and that her suitcase was heavy. Good work there, team.

So they looked in the bag of 19-year-old Maria del Mar Arjona and found inmate Juan Ramirez Tijerina curled up in the fetal position.

She was arrested and her husband was sent back to jail to complete a 20-year illegal weapons sentence.

OK, seriously, how lax is the security in these prisons that such a plot had even the remotest chance of working? And since I'm one of those people who likes to contemplate how to pull off the best bank heist or what not, I'm now thinking about how I'd smuggle my 6'5" husband out of jail if here were to get in trouble with the law.

Something tells me the suitcase trick wouldn't quite cut it.

You would probably find it much more practical to smuggle INTO the prison the weapons and tools needed for the DIY breakout.

You left out the most important information: did the suitcase contain nail files or tubes of hair gel?

What explanation did she give for bringing a suitcase that size into the prison? It was obviously convincing.

With guards of such fine caliber, perhaps a cardboard decoy would work.

"Stop him, you idiots!"

"That's not him. Look, he's still standing in his cell."

As you drag the extra large, heavy, bulging suitcase you'd have to mumble to yourself "argh, I always overpack..."

See, when we tried that it was really a problem when I incidentally bumped something and hit a nerve cluster. It really led to complications.
