Hey, am I the only one who's noticed this? I just watched Obama's speech about Egypt and found myself thinking, "Who is this kid? Do I have to watch the rest of this?"

Maybe it's just me.

Perhaps the Teleprompter is still in primary school.

Diane Ellis, Ed.

Generally I find him quite annoying.  But relatively speaking, I didn't think this speech was all that bad.  Aside from all the stupid anecdotes that have no place in an address like this one, that is.  What did you dislike about it?

Rush Limbaugh has a movie trailer parody in which the announcer intones, "Barack Obama is The Man-Child Candidate."

Me, too, Claire.  Diane just commanded me to compose a post, evaluating the President's remarks, and I kept it sort of high-minded and essay-ish.  But now that you say so, I say so too.  His delivery is always--always--ponderous and pompous and somehow self-involved.

The guy just gets on my nerves.

My skin crawls in time with his teleprompter. Other than that...

It's not just you. I'm so glad others feel this way. Here, federal news is local news, so I'm to the point where I have to leave the room when he comes on TV or just turn it off. It literally makes me ill to hear the sound of this voice. He's so sanctimonious with this Moses-Jesus complex of his. You'd think a couple of years on the job would humble a person.

It's not just you, Claire. He's the eternal freshman know-it-all.

Don't get me started.

He gives me the creeps... as in the alien movies of the 1950's.

Claire, here I thought I was the only one in the world who couldn't bear to watch this guy speak. Thank you for showing me there are other people that feel as I do.

I find him so annoying that when he's making a speech on TV I have to change to the QVC channel to get some needed relief/escape.

He gives the impression that he really is the smartest person he's ever met. In Churchill's words, "He's a self made man who worships his creator."

I simply cannot watch or listen to him. I rather go to the dentist for a root canal.

Yes!  Annoying!  He really, really, really needs to take some acting lessons or at least attend some Toastmasters sessions.

I presume this was an ironic post, Claire, because it would be hard to craft one more self-referential. ;-)

In December when he was on vacation for a couple weeks he didn't appear on television. His approval numbers went up. 'Nuff said.

I have tried to listen to the Pres at various times but just cannot get past a couple minutes.  Even today I thought that I would give it another shot and see if I could make it through an Obama speech, couldn't do it.  Obama doesn't talk to you, he talks at you and his tone always seems to be lecturing.

"Cloying" comes to mind.  Doesn't everyone feel that way?

He gives me the sense that we are an annoyance distracting him from his circle of devout, if incredibly incompetent, yes-people when he speaks. At his best, when he musters some measure of attention for we the great unwashed, he glares and hectors and carps.

And the anecdotes, which he mistakes for Reagan tales in his faux-Reagan mode, are about how people have been dragged from the gutter by government owing to his enlightened guidance. Reagan's were never about himself, except occasionally in a self-deprecating way. And usually about how government was no longer shoving someone into the gutter in the first place.

He has an odd, here I am explaining all of these things to these simpletons, again, some more, quality. Like a bad insurance salesman, he will continue until he finally sells us a policy.
