Do the Russians Love Their Kittens Too?
BREAKING: Medvedev's Cat is Safe!
I have all sorts of completely depressing news to discuss with you today, Ricochet, but let's start with the good news:
Setting aside fears for a new arms race with the United States or the conflict in Syria, President Dmitry Medvedev took to Twitter Wednesday to reassure Russia on another burning issue -- the wellbeing of his cat.
Presidential pet Dorofey had not, contrary to press reports and frenzied Internet speculation, gone missing.
"It has become known from sources close to Dorofey that he didn't disappear. Thank you for your concern, everyone," tweeted Medvedev.
Russian social media users have been having a field day speculating about the cat's alleged escape, with at least two Twitter accounts created in Dorofey's name to post updates of his whereabouts and his decision to join the nascent protest movement.
"I am tired of politics! I want family and kids!" one Dorofey impersonator @Dorofey_Kot tweeted.
Right. Enough sentimentalism. You're still our number one foe, Russkie. (Actually, I'd have demoted you to number four, but top five, for sure.)

This reminds me of how every country has its own breeds of cats and dogs. What are some of the more interesting, lesser known, breeds you have run across in your travels, Claire? What kind of cat looks distinctly Turkish?
...before you hang a ward against the Evil Eye on his collar, I mean.

The evil ones always love their animals. It's people they have problems with.
Re: Do the Russians Love Their Kittens Too?
I wish that were true. Unfortunately, lots of evil people don't love their animals.
Re: Do the Russians Love Their Kittens Too?
This is the famous Turkish Van cat. I've never actually seen one, but I've been assured they exist.

Then, of course, you get highly exotic, mysteriously Oriental breeds like this:

I've noticed that cute cat videos are one of Russia's primary exports these days. They seem to love their LOLs.

They don't need special glasses to watch Avatar, I take it?

My sources tell me this is a only partially true... the cat has disappeared but his grin remains.

Re: Do the Russians Love Their Kittens Too?
If it's the eyes that distinguish it, it's not that rare - I've got a white cat at home with the two different colored eyes (although hers are Blue and Green, not gold). She's also deaf. I'm told that the genes that control the white hair/eye color are very close to the gene for deafness, such that some significant percentage of white cats are deaf.

Isn't that an Angora? They're also native to Turkey, and have different-colored eyes.
