Did The Lord Strike At Democrats For Calling Chris Christie A [Expletive Deleted]?
Relax, Ricochet Code of Conduct cops - I'm just reporting the news, and that word is now on the front page of every newspaper in New Jersey. Thank the Democrats for their oratory excellence. [Code of Conduct Cop: Ricochet Members will just have to go buy a newspaper in New Jersey if they want to find out the deleted expletive]
I'm not one of those religious folks, as religious as I am, who believes that God smites us with weather (but I always keep an open mind).
Sometimes, things are just so coincidental they are way too much fun to ignore. Do you think God would throw lightening at NJ Senate President Steve Sweeney for calling Governor Christie "a rotten [expletive deleted]?" I don't know if you've been following New Jersey politics lately, but it's become so nasty that I'm starting to wonder if shows like "Jersey Shore" and "Real Housewives of NJ" aren’t actually documentaries.
Chris Christie has become famous for taking on unions and wasteful spending in NJ and he did just make a deal that supposedly will do something about our idiotic government employee pensions (whether it works remains to be seen).
Following that bi-partisan show, Governor Christie then vetoed a Democrat budget. He started slashing enormous sums of aid to poor cities, so much so that my beloved Asbury Park will be forced to raise their tax levy 101% (thanks Governor - I guess I'll take my real estate off the market now).
I think the Governor is just holding that money hostage. I predict he will extract some concessions from Democrats before giving a substantial portion of it back. He would really have to give cities a year's notice before he did that, so they could do some slashing themselves and not have to raise taxes so drastically (and I hope Governor Christie does just that someday).
Now check out the post-Giffords civility of the Democrats in Senate President Steve Sweeney's response to the veto, referring to Christie:
He’s mean-spirited. He’s angry. If you don’t like what he says, I liken it to being spoiled…(it’s) I’m going to get my way, or else. He’s a rotten [expletive deleted].
Then Sweeney delivered this beauty about the Governor, complete with shades of violence:
This is all about him being a bully and a punk. I wanted to punch him in the head…To prove a point to me - a guy who has stood side by side with him, and made tough decisions - for him to punish people to prove a political point? He’s just a rotten [expletive deleted] to do what he did.
Listen, you can punch me in the face and knock me down, do what you want. But don’t be vindictive and punish innocent people. These people didn’t do anything to him. It’s like a bank robber taking hostages. And now he’s starting to shoot people.
I liken it to being spoiled…He’s just a cruel man.
Chris Christie's response was a tad more statesman-like:
The proposed budget from the Democrats is just more of the same unrealistic, pie in the sky, fantasy budgeting they brought to New Jersey for the eight years before we arrived. Instead of continuing to put New Jersey on strong fiscal footing, this proposal reaffirms the Democrats’ commitment to job-killing tax increases and an unrepentant addiction to spending. New Jerseyans are the most over-taxed citizens in America and they want us to reduce spending and make government smaller. This proposal only serves to denigrate all of the hard choices made over the last year that broke from decades of state government spending money that just doesn’t exist.
Steve Sweeney then appeared on a local Fox affiliate, and to the religious eye it certainly looks like the Lord sent him a message. Judge for yourself (of course I'm just having a bit of fun here, but a guy can dream, can't he?):

I've heard tell that someone keeps track and if you get high score, someone accidentally spills a drink on you at a Rico soiree.
Just sayin'.

Oh, you didn't read the fine print when you joined Ricochet? CoC violations result in automatic withdrawals from your account to finance those Rico soirees.

From a CBS News report on Aug 19th 2009:
The National Weather Service received reports of a possible tornado near downtown Minneapolis, where winds tore off part of a 90-year-old metal church steeple...
Jack Freitag said he was standing in the lobby of the Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis when he saw "a wall cloud from the south coming across the parking lot." Then a "very loud roar" came through as he saw signs being blown around in the wind.
The wind tore off part of the church's 90-year-old metal steeple around 2 p.m. while about 120 people were inside, said church spokesman Joe Bjordal...
Outside the church, strong winds ripped apart large outdoor tents and scattered chairs and folding tables across the parking lot that were set up for the national Evangelical Lutheran Church in America convention.
The ELCA was meeting to discuss if (some would say deny that) practicing homosexuality is a behavior that should disqualify a person from the pastoral ministry.
The coincidence did raise a few eyebrows.
