We're still eight weeks out from the midterms, but Democrats are already showing their hand: they've got nothing.

Or so it would seem, when the only thing they have left to stir up the base is Sarah Palin. From the NYT:

Gone are the days when President Obama was the biggest source of motivation for Democrats.

The role now belongs to Sarah Palin.

That, at least, was the argument from David Plouffe, the architect of Mr. Obama’s presidential campaign, who appeared here on Sunday to deliver a fresh sense of urgency to Democrats in the final 50 days of the midterm election campaign.

“You have a good opportunity to remind your neighbors, your friends and your family members about who the real Republican Party is,” Mr. Plouffe said. “The very best organizer and fund-raiser in the Democratic Party is going to be here in Iowa — Sarah Palin.”

If the best thing the Democrats have going for them is a private citizen that they don't like very much, then they really haven't got much going for them.

I think what Americans find refreshing (the ones that do) about Palin is, unlike with our President, it's not all about her when she speaks. And when it is about her, it's about her the mother, her the wife, her the involved citizen. You can kind of tell if someone has a genuine "calling," or is just driven by ambition. The best evidence that she's something special, not just operating from the standard motivations, is her enemies. Her enemies have always thought she was something special--something that needed to be destroyed.

Glenn Beck says about this photo (from the 8/28 rally,) the photographer saw Palin standing like this backstage by herself, out of view of the crowd, head bowed, eyes closed, and very still for several minutes before he even decided to snap the photo. It wasn't staged. The photographer just happened to be where he could see it.

What an amazing photo, I actually hadn't seen that before!

I think the Democrats are making an enormous miscalculation thinking that Palin is enough to run on--the same way the White House is mistaking how far beating up George W. Bush will get them. I don't see her appealing to less and less people, as the President currently is; I see her seeming more appealing to people the more they see of her, and the more they see her being herself instead of what Steve Schmidt wanted her to be. Her next book tour is likely to only boost her numbers, her midterm election victories will boost her credibility and the number of elected officials who owe her favors, and using her as a bogeyman may only lead to people wondering if her proposals might be worth investigating after the failures of the people who seem most afraid of her.

Remember: For two full weeks after Palin was nominated as the 2008 Republican VP candidate, the Democrats were totally paralyzed – scared out of their wits. Finally they got the attack machine in place, and they have never let up on her. They will not be satisfied until they have reduced Palin and everything she stands for to metaphorical ashes.

This is why I am irked whenever Republicans and pundits on the Right dismiss Sarah Palin as being inconsequential. Obviously, her enemies think otherwise.

And the sheer hatred Democrats feel for Palin cannot be overestimated. When she chose to give birth to Trig, that made her (literally) a loathsome heretic in the eyes of the pro-abortion Left. She refused to place the body of her son on the Altar of Political Correctness. For that alone, liberals will never forgive her.

Let's see, they've tried George W. Bush (hasn't worked well, and diminishes with each passing day), Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck (no traction), Tea Partiers (can't find any real evidence that they are incarnated racist devils), BP (whoops, it was a big Obama supporter, and then it plugged the leak), and those horrible Republicans in Congress (despite the fact that they are vastly overwhelmed by the Dems in numbers).

So now it's Sarah, with some John Boehner thrown in. Last I checked, Palin and McCain lost the election and Boehner is the Minority Leader in the house.
Sad when you want to demonize, but can't find a demon.

Remember when you were in high school and a new girl came to town, and she was in your class and it was hard not to daydream and stare at her all the time? And how the 'in crowd' girls got so insanely jealous at her natural beauty, joy of life, and all-around abilities that they couldn't stop obsessing about it and laying traps to ensnare her; but like Wylie Coyote they kept getting the ACME anvil in the head - instead of her? Then went totally ballistic when they heard their boyfriends talking about her; and threatened them with everything - even withholding sex - if they too didn't join in the hate fest. The true light makes everything else look pretty shabby by comparison. That hurts.

They say Hollywood is like High School with money, politics is show business for ugly people, and it's true: The vast majority of us are in a state of arrested emotional development. We never grew past age sixteen.

Except for the real people like Reagan, it's a schoolyard out there. Sarah's a star, a great American, and she springs from the very hand of Divine Providence. God bless her.

Actually, it's only seven weeks and a wake-up. If "Recovery Summer" has shown anything, it's that they have bupkes to save them.

This is a stupid, stupid gamble on the part of the Democrats. At this point, prolonged exposure to Palin is more likely to earn her fans than foes.

Last week Gov. Strickland went ape on the "extremists" controlling the Ohio GOP at a union event - if only! There are a whole lot of voters who don't share the AFL-CIO's definition of "extreme," and the hapless strategy of demonizing Boehner and Palin will only make that clearer.

It makes sense for the Democrats to (further) demonize Sarah Palin if their goal is to energize their base. The liberal wing of the party is disappointed with Obama for not having turned the US into a European democratic-socialist's dream yet, so attacking Palin is a good way of getting out the disgruntled pinko vote. Then again, as mentioned previously, the Democrats seem to have overused the "attack opponents" card to the point of complete ineffectiveness in the face of highly unpopular policy and legislative decisions.
