The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll shows Boxer ahead of Fiorina by 1%. Statistically, Peter, this is a tie. Fiorina is closing in for the kill. You might want to buy another bottle or two of champagne!

Fred Barnes had a great column on this race in this week's Standard. One of the points he made is just how loopy and gaffe-prone Boxer gets under pressure. Specifically, he points to her tendency to throw out crazy statistics that seemingly come from nowhere.

True to form, days later with Blitzer she contended she supported $1.2 trillion in tax cuts in the stimulus, which itself was only $800 billion.

Can't believe these morons are running the country.

I would like to see an analysis of the percentage of likely voters over time willing to vote for Fiorina. I would like the analysis to be performed by Paul Krugman, and I would like for him to conclude that there has been no rise.

How does this poll track with projected turnout among hippies for Prop 19? I'm still worried the bong crowd, which checks the box of those with D's next to their names, will give Boxer a boost.

My bet is that no one has thought to build that into their calculations. I didn't, but I do not live in California.

Which is more troubling: that Boxer isn't 10 or more points down, or that they're seriously considering electing Brown? If the latter happens, invest in moving company stocks, or buy a van yourself!

(note to self: I've never been to California, and the law thing isn't going so well; maybe I should buy a used moving van, get my CDL, and change careers [and coasts])

My hope is that the stoners will be too lazy to get to the polling place.

Put out the word that they are to vote on the weed issue Wednesday, Nov. 3.

Feh. Just say there's a Phish reunion concert on Tuesday night.

From your lips to God's ears, Dr. Rahe.

If it's not me, then I want to see the reaction when the first person says "Ms. Fiorina, let me be the first to call you SENATOR!"

The stoners only want to vote on 19, so my guess is that's all they'll do. They'll giggle at "the man's" reaction when they turn in a 9/10 empty ballot, then head to the car to blow a fatty, content in the knowledge that they have exercised their "right" as an American to vote.

I live in Boxer's home base, Marin County. To date, I have seen one Boxer bumpersticker and no yard signs. As opposed to no Fiorina bumperstickers and 3 yard signs.

This level of grassroots apathy is astounding.

People here are speculating about the turnout effect of Prop. 19. What they don't realize is that Prop. 25 is a bigger issue - it seeks to suspend our insane "global warming" law until unemployment declines to 5.5%. Big Green is spending bazillions of dollars claiming that Prop. 25 will turn the state into a combination of 1970's Los Angeles, the worst of China and Chernobyl.

Most Californians don't care a whit about Prop. 19, but they're so brainwashed about the environment that they will turn out to defeat Prop. 25.

Oh, it gets worse. I lived for 20 years on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

And for 5 years in the district of the Honorable Chakka Fatah (D), Congressman from Philadephia, where my precinct went 95% for Obama.(The precinct straddled the blackest zip code in America and a neighborhood full of lovely old homes inhabited by academics employed by the University of Pennsylvania. The funny part was that there were very few Obama yard signs on the black side, but on the Penn side, people literally had dozens of them in their yards and even plastered on their roofs.)

To complete the sweep you must include the district of Dennis Kucinich. I'll put you up for a night or two just so you can say you did it.

I'm curious, Kenneth, what causes a conservative like you to live in such liberal climes? That subtle urban pull we all feel from time to time?

I grew up in California. Moved to New York City because I wanted to experience life in the Center of the Universe.

Philadelphia was because my wife was accepted into a Doctoral program at Penn.

Marin County is because, eventually, one wants to live in a beautiful place with a wonderful climate.
