While Rob's using technology to chart the decline of the West, may I use it for somewhat lighter purposes?

I'm almost sad the "Like" button is gone because there's nothing more to say than "Like!".  Super cute, Peter -- thanks for sharing.  My mom is sure to get a kick out of this one.

It is 2002, the tech bubble has burst and the Wintel monopoly is at its apex. Someone says to you, invest in this company because they're making little music players which are not that different from the ones that are already out there but they look better but they're more expensive and they think they'll sell music to people online even though everyone is swapping music for free online...oh but someday in 7 years these devices will allow you play silly songs on them as though they were musical instruments...gee how many millions would you like? For all those who see our many, serious and intractable problems in the US today...take note. The future is uncertain in ways we cannot fathom but freedom finds a way.

Just curious... why/where did the "Like" button go? (It strikes me as strange to be able to "Like" the comments in a conversation but not what started the conversation in the first place.)

The Facebook "like" button was replaced with the facebook "share" button.  Two Facebook buttons seemed like overkill, and it appears that the most effective way to spread word about something you like via Facebook is to share it as a status update on your wall.

On the other hand, the "Like" buttons on comments are for internal use only (i.e. they aren't exported to one's Facebook profile).

That seems like a hell of a lot of money to spend on substitutes for shakers and bongos.

Ok, I realize they didn't buy the devices JUST to use them as expensive substitutes for simple percussion instruments, but still I don't really see the point...
