David Cameron has jetted off to Islamabad to accept historic responsibility on behalf of his nation for causing the world's problems:

His remarks came on a visit to Pakistan, when he was asked how Britain could help to end the row over Kashmir.

He insisted that it was not his place to intervene in the dispute, saying: “I don’t want to try to insert Britain in some leading role where, as with so many of the world’s problems, we are responsible for the issue in the first place."

Mr. Prime Minister, too little, too late. Since the shockingly irresponsible reign of King George III, the American colonies have been engulfed in disorder. We expect more than your blithe, offhanded admission that Britain is the reason for this.  We expect you to take responsibility for this mess.

I'm honestly shocked.  I knew British moderate conservatives were more squishy then American moderate conservatives, but I didn't know there was this much of a difference.

And Spain is to be blamed, of course, for all the ills of Central and South America, including all the drug trafficking. The inhabitants of those regions are simply victims of colonialism.

After we conquered them during the war we should've just annexed the island and plundered the joint in retaliation.  But noooooooo, we had to go and respect their sovereignty and stuff, and what did we get for it?

The Suez Crisis, for starters.

I blame the sunburn I got in Hawaii on the Brits also.  Not to mention Australian accents...

I just don't get what such a statement is supposed to accomplish, most especially in the radical Islamist enclaves of London. Are he and I living in the same world?

No, no, no--you people don't get it. This is typical British superiority. They have the power, from a distance of thousands of miles and many decades, to screw up any people, any culture, any government they please. The UK's malevolence is so mighty, and other countries so weak, there is simply no contest between the two. Pakistan is a mere sock puppet fated to enact a drama written by the likes of David Cameron.

Arrogant show-off.

When I saw yesterday's post "Is it Ever Better to Lose an Election," steam shot from my ears.  "How could anyone," I demanded, "have the audacity to hypothesize a fate worse than Obama."  I realize, of course, in that post the proferred scenario suggested a Gore win in 2000 might have been better, but the question is only relevant today if an Obama 2012 victory might yet be preferred.  "Preposterous!" I harrumphed.

This morning, I read this and I wonder.  I cannot imagine supporting Labour - not after the winter of discontent, but ...? Is it David Cameron's mission to make the effete appear virile?

And to think you had some "conservatives" telling us that this guy was a model to be emulated. Sheesh.

Most of my ancestors came from England and Wales in the mid-nineteenth century.  Since Britain was already in India by then I've suddenly been overcome with guilt for what my lower-class ancestors may have done to contribute to British misrule in India (and especially how they have contributed to problems in Kashmir).

Would it be appropriate for me to join Mr. Cameron in his apology?  Or do you think he was already speaking for me?   I'm also really sorry for what the Anglo-Saxons may have done to the Celts--or vice versa.  My guilt has made me so confused.

Help me out.  Have the Vikings apologized yet for what they did to England?  I'm unclear on who still owes whom apologies.

Since my ancestors came after the Revolutionary War, I'd like to apologize for anything that George III or Lord North may have done to your ancestors.

It's the Romans' fault.  If the western half of the Empire hadn't collapsed, all of this could have been prevented.

That means that all our problems were basically caused by the Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Vandals, Huns, and Franks.

Is there a spokesman for the Visigoths who will be issuing an apology?

Well, I have a bead on who might be running the show for the Huns and the Franks - we could try slapping them around some.  The Huns should be no problem, but I hear the leader of the Franks is kind of feisty.
