So the Dallas folks got together and it was amazing. Warm and cordial interactions, thought-provoking discussion. Attendees were Jeff, Liberty Belle, Joycelyn, Mary the fifth and her brother Greg Rogers, BrentB67, my friend Laura, the elusive Jimmy Carter, and your humble organizer, Olive.

Topics included concealed carry/open carry laws in various states, the legality of company policies regarding armed employees, Ted Cruz, victories within the Tea Party movement, the state of public education, a beautiful hybrid between homeschooling and private school (ask Jeff), and the benefit of nametags at a Ricochet meetup.

Moving on to the seating area, we had a roundtable discussion on the long march of the Left to take over institutions and the cultural disasters that enabled that march; the growth of government throughout various decades, and how to starve the government in order to correct that overreach; the Iranian revolution and our containment policy regarding Iran; the failure of African nations; the economy of Texas (only 8% oil and gas); how the government usurped the Church in the role of caretaker of the poor and orphans, and how FDR intentionally tried to break the back of the Church in that area.

Jimmy Carter

We were queried as to 1) our reactions to November's election and 2) what other websites we visit; we talked Victor Davis Hanson; the tragedy of abortion and the possibilities for adoption; the willingness of liberals to give money to the government instead of charities; the hope for limited government and whether it could happen in our lifetimes.

Friends, I learned a lot from these thoughtful and well-read men and women. A valuable experience. Many thanks to those who attended.

There's no such thing as an unsuccessful meetup, and it sounds like you covered every base there was to be covered. Wish I'd been there.

I tried to interject the Kardashian sisters a couple of times, but to no avail.

I also wish that I'd been there.

But, alas, I'm too far away (in MN); but maybe someone here will organize a get-together - perhaps in Minneapolis/St. Paul ??

What did you use the name tags for ? Ricochet aliases or real names ?

And is Carter's middle name Florsheim ?

I hope you checked Jimmy's shoes at the door. Impostors never shine.

FYI to the Ricochetti, Jimmy Carter is just as delightful in person as he is online. :-)

Some of us put both our real name and our handle.

I was bubbling over with enthusiasm on the way home. I hoped I didn't talk too much, as is my way, even though I am basically a shy person. I did find out on the drive home that Greg, brother of Mary the Fifth, didn't hear a word we said, so perhaps we should find a more acoustically friendly location for our next meet-up. The conversation could have gone on all night, as far as I'm concerned. The Meet-up was a unqualified success! Thanks Olive! BTW, the pizza was awesome, as was the waitstaff and the customer  that took our picture.

Great idea with the only shots of Jimmy's shoes!  So when is the 1st Annual Rico-Con?

I really wish I could have been there.  Looks like a wonderful time was had by all.

I think this was one of the few times I'd been able to talk about conservative issues with folks other than a couple of my siblings. That's how timid I am and that needs to change.

Thanks, Olive, for the excellent roundup.

Hmm ... Cap toes, sewn synthetic souls, hardly worn, high gloss shine to practically patent leather.

My guess would be military issue dress shoes. If they're civvies, Florsheim or Johnston and Murphy.
