Obama appointees addressing Congress

2PM at Kilroy's! The last pre-Inauguration DC Ricochet gathering will provide the initiated the opportunity to contemplate in full session the significance of the last election and the slate of new Obama appointees headed to the Senate for confirmation. The notice is short but the urge is strong! And to show true American grit, we will eat at the same time!!!

Mollie Hemingway is confirmed, and, if the past is any indication, nice people, spirited conversation, a good time will be had by all. Kilroy's is just off the Beltway one exit west of the I95 merge in Northern Virginia and includes a wide range of family fare as well as adult beverages for those so inclined.

Kilroy's is at 5250 Port Royal Rd, Springfield, VA, 22151, near the scout store, a stone's throw outside the Beltway. (Although we have been officially cautioned about throwing stones across the Beltway.)

While you are at Kilroy's, take the opportunity to browse their impressive collection of patriotic memorabilia through WW II. Please RSVP below so we can arrange sufficient space. See you there!

Confirmed:

  • Mollie Hemingway, Ricochet editor, Mark Hemingway, writer for the Weekly Standard, and the lovely Hemingway daughters.
  • Sisyphus
  • Mr. & Mrs. GLDIII & Son
  • Reckless Endangerment
  • Basil Fawlty
  • David Foster
  • Lidens Cheng's aunt
  • PsychLynne & Son & Son
  • Mr. Brown
  • ChristmasBeard & Child
  • Bunky
  • Guy
  • pensworth - Highly Likely

Sadly, I can't make it-- wish I could!

*eyeballs the picture*  Binky looks horrible.

Mollie Hemingway, Ed.

What time are we doing this thing? Did I miss it in the post? I'm tired (and in mourning after the Broncos loss). I'm fine with whatever daylight time -- breakfast, lunch or afternoon snack.

Oh, and Mr. Hemingway is also confirmed (of course, that means the Hemingway children are confirmed, too ...).

Good catch. My bad. Our usual time, 2PM. Afternoon snack. The post is fixed. Commiserations on your Broncos.

Glad to see the Senate has some sense, anyway.

Sisyphus;

Meet me half way, I can't read your mind, what day are you doing this? Tomorrow? Next weekend. He gets crowned next Monday. Tomorrow is booked major time with honey do's before Uncle sends me to Boulder for the week of thermal vacuum testing.  I would like to attend, need another conservative fix. Please tell me it is next weekend.

RSVP helps me get the right level of accommodation. The sooner the better, but even without a firm answer, admission against interest, we have never ever turned anyone away.

I confirmed her. If we had waited for Reid and McConnell to get their respective acts together who knows what result we would have seen.

Sisyphus,

Would you mind if we bring our precocious (first honors/eagle scout)  17 year old? He is a junior in catholic high school and has been making sport of going after his soft headed co-religionous on the "Social Justice" and other feel good memes. (My getting him to read Jonah's Tyranny of Cliche's was like pouring kerosene on the open fire).  He was reading some of this conservative stuff over my shoulder and would like to test the waters.

Thoughts?

Children are always welcome. My own eldest has come along before and others as well. There was the moment when Mrs. Sisyphus pointed out, "Your children are reading your posts on Ricochet," but if we do not expose the young to our thinking  what bulwark do we provide them against the slings and arrows of reckless and feckless government?

Sisyphus,

I won't be in town for this one, but wish to commend you on choosing Kilroy's.  It has been some time since I was in there.

I am a big fan of Kilroy's myself. Anyplace I can go and enjoy large prints of Norman Rockwell covers and other period memorabilia is fine by me. I find it far more engaging than any trip to the Corcoran or the Hirschorn.

The other venue we may use in the future is Pat Troy's in Old Town Alexandria. It has a strongly conservative flavor, every time I've been there there have been priests in collars presiding over at least one table and there are areas dedicated to commemorating each of the services, as well as several photos of Kennedy, Reagan, and the Bushes. The Alexandria Tea Party makes good use of them from time to time.

I'll be there.  What's "The Fight of The Week" going to be about?

Ah, I wish I could attend. The girlfriend is in town and I'd love to bring her. Sadly, I no longer have a car, so Kilroy's (while awesome) is out of reach.

One of these days, we should have a meetup that's actually IN DC haha. We could do Arlington, VA if no one want's to venture into the belly of the beast.

Count me in!

(I also support the idea of a meetup in actual DC sometime)
