I never thought I'd be saying anything nice about a Cuomo in politics, but when I opened the New York Post and saw the new governor speaking like ... well, a Republican ... I have to say, the times they are a-changing. Nothing like a little dose of economic reality.

Agreed. I felt the same way watching video of his speech in which he was calling for a property tax cap and an end to the millionaire tax. It made me wonder if New York's political landscape is being realigned.

As Margaret Thatcher said, liberals eventually run out of other people’s money. With the top 1% of taxpayers in New York State responsible for 41% of total state revenue even a liberal has to realize that if just a few of those pack up and leave the state’s revenue will take a hit.

Apparently even Nannie Bloomberg can figure that out and he opposed a millionaire income tax in NYC.  He said that there are only 40 families in New York City responsible for a very large part of its revenue, and he was afraid some of them might leave.

I don’t believe liberals like Bloomberg or Cuomo ever see the light and become conservative.  I think the explanation for Cuomo’s and Bloomberg’s insight is that they understand the difference between being a roving bandit and a stationary bandit.

I'm not so sure. Cuomo is not stupid. He seems to be aping Christie. And remember, Ed Koch was a dyed in the wool liberal until he became mayor and had some executive responsibility. One can hope.

One can hope...but the state of the NYGOP is so dire that Cuomo can bewitch influential Republicans simply by adopting a less-than-hostile attitude toward high net worth individuals. I wish we could all repose safe in the knowledge that the height of Andrew Cuomo's ambition is to successfully govern New York. But Cuomo's past, present, and future suggest we cannot.
