Discussing the president's bus tour in the Midwest, on this week's podcast I mentioned Decorah, Iowa. Now a devoted listener, who is an even more devoted midwesterner, has written to correct my pronunciation.  "Decorah" does not, as I had wrongly supposed, rhyme with "Deborah."  Instead, the stress falls on the second syllable:  Di-COR-uh.

I happily accept the correction, as I must do to comply with the Ricochet ethic of good manners and deCORum.

I am glad that someone was here to decry the decorated director and save him from decrepitude.

That what it looks like from neighboring Dez Moynes or Rockford,Illanoize.

Even from faraway Missoura. Now try Keokuk, Lamoni, Ankeny or Le Mars.

Huh. While reading that to myself I pronounced it correctly in my head. Maybe because I was thinking decorum as you ended your post. The Deborah pronounciation never occurred to me.

It's a good thing the President's Iowa stops didn't include Madrid, pronounced MAD-rid, or Nevada, pronounced ne-VAY-da.

Peter, I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to make a formal, in-person, apology to the Iowa Ricochetoise for your inexcusable pronunciation gaffe.  You could do a few days worth of posts from the campaign trail.
