Convictions in the "Irvine 11" Case
I’m pleased to report that here in Southern California we’ve seen the conviction of ten members of a group known as the “Irvine 11.” The defendants were charged with disrupting an address by Michael Oren, the Israeli ambassador to the U.S., on the campus of U.C. Irvine in February 2010. A lone defendant had earlier accepted a plea agreement, but the remaining ten chose to take their case to a jury. Sadly, the ten were sentenced only to probation and will be spared jail time.
The convictions were greeted by the expected lamentations in the Muslim Grievance Community. "Absolutely unbelievable. I believe the heart of America has died today," said Shakeel Syed, executive director of the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California. "This is clearly an indication that Muslims are permanent foreigners, at least in Orange County."
Boo hoo.
Free speech remains alive in Orange County, they only ask that speakers mind their manners, apparently an unreasonable request for some. Kudos to Orange County district attorney Tony Rackauckas, whose office prosecuted the case. I’m confident that if the event had instead occurred in Los Angeles County, the case would have been quietly dropped in deference to the demands of political correctness.

That is why I find this case somewhat chilling. Looking across the Atlantic and seeing how free speech is being systematically squelched in Europe I look in dread on those useful idiots fighting to bring such suppression to our shores. We may not have political show trials yet, à la Geert Wilders, but it is not for lack of effort from those who would like to make it happen.

Isn't this a bad thing? How are criminal charges appropriate? Basic property rights should allow the university to impose various penalties, even to sue if it's set things up right. This seems like something you resolve via the civil court system (or have the people thrown out by security at the time).
(I admit, I didn't watch the video; it's 48 minutes long!).

flownover you are circling deeper and deeper into inscrutable rambles I fear we are losing you. To which I will add, suggesting Islamist apologists be encouraged to relocate to our domestic trouble spot of Dearborn, MI is a solution with some difficulties. Try harder.

A disruptive person on private property, who fails to comply with property owners' requests to either behave or leave? Criminal charges are perfectly appropriate.

Sorry about the tossed salad of contemporary references. Having watched the Irvine "assaults" when they happened and knowing the long history of that campus's anti-semitism, I am fed up with the actions , which are fascist , and the complaints, which are usually addressed by yielding to their demands. Foot baths in the KC airport is a favorite. Dearborn came to mind as the most muslim place in America. Otherwise, it was lazy.
