Conservative Majority for Canada

CBC, CTV and Global calls a Majority government for Stephen Harper and the Conservatives. A complete disaster for the Liberals. The Socialist NDP will be in official opposition.

You beat me by 2 minutes. We may be the only ones on Ricochet who are interested except, perhaps, for Mark Steyn ;-)

Excellent man... Why wasn't he invited to the wedding?

Re: Conservative Majority for Canada
Hey, there's me too. An interesting aspect is the growth of the NDP in Quebec, where more than half of its seats appear to be; with any luck that dependence will (eventually) do for the NDP what it did for Social Credit.

I spent many happy days of my childhood in North Bay. The American Prime Minister in Waiting goes down in flames, eh?

Re: Conservative Majority for Canada
His endless concession speech was one of the reasons for the flame-out. Not a bad man, but he ran against his old persona -- he was one of the few Liberal-types to come out in support of action in Iraq in 2003. Now he wants to cancel our F-35 order.

Re: Conservative Majority for Canada
But did he really vote Kerry in 2004? We know he voted Labour in the UK.

Don't know. Liberals are famed for holding two impossible ideas at the same time...

Re: Conservative Majority for Canada
Man, since I was a kid, the NDP was forever the third party, an afterthought there to fight the class struggles of the 1930s. I'm a bit worried - Layton is a camera hog, and if the Conservatives aren't careful, we'll get an NDP government next election. The Liberals will spend some time in the wilderness, their coffers will be drained as they try to regroup. The Bloc - fascinating - maybe that whole era of Canadian politics is over, as the pure laine Quebeckers are outnumbered by allophones and "new Canadians", who could care less about the struggles of the 70s.
I feel bad for Ignatieff, he's probably a good guy, a smart guy, but a terrible politician.
Harper is a great guy, I've talked to many who know him, and he's genuine. He's a fantastic guy, we're lucky to have him. He has no flash, but that's perfectly fine with me.
I talked to one guy tonight, and I said that Bob Rae will have to rebuild the Liberal Party. He was starry-eyed for Justin Trudeau. Oh boy. :(

Re: Conservative Majority for Canada
Ezra Levant (SunTV) had a good crack about the Glibs going for the next shiny toy -- the substitute drama teacher, Justin Trudeau.
The big thing tonight is the implosion of the Libs -- they're millions in debt and will lose the money that the feds give parties, once Harper kills it with his majority.

Canucski - yeah, I hope they shove that "funding of parties by number of votes received" down the toilet, ASAFP (feasibly) :)

Polarization in Canada. The NDP would make our Democrats blush.
Interesting how the separatist party has gone down in flames. When I was kid in the GWN, they were the harbingers of doom for Canada. Now the French seem happy with their lot and aspire to socialism hoping to have the rest of Canada keep them in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Glad to read this, as I was initially disturbed to see Julia Gillard present, but no PM Harper.

Hey PseudoD, you must live in British Columbia. Beautiful place.
I'm both happy and worried about the election. I'm happy that there's a Conservative Majority, because I know that Harper will lead things well. I'm unhappy at the resurgence of the NDP. But I'm happy that the Bloc has been obliterated. But I'm unhappy that Dosangj was trashed, I like the guy and his integrity. But I"m happy that - well, there's hope. Cheers.

It would seem that the NDP a federal party has now become a regional party because the majority of seats are in Quebec. It will be interesting to see how long NDP Jack Layton will be able to retain the leadership of a Quebec party while having his seat in Toronto not Quebec.

Re: Conservative Majority for Canada
Libs score 33 seats. Out of 308. Canada seems prone to these wipeouts. Remember what happened to the Tories under Mulroney?
Deceptively volatile, those Canucks. Never turn your back to one.
