Would it surprise you to know that the top-rated television program among voters classified as Ultra Conservative is College Football, while The Daily Show is number one among so-called Super Democrats? Probably not, but it’s still interesting stuff.

An outfit called Experian Simmons provides consumer research data to marketers, and it has put together lists of favorite TV shows of voters of various political leanings. Other UC favorites include Antiques Roadshow, Dancing with the Stars and, of course, Wheel of Fortune, while SDs prefer The Colbert Report, 30 Rock and Mad Men. The complete lists are here.

Any surprises as far as you’re concerned? Any conclusions to be drawn? Do your viewing habits match up with these lists? Any other lists you can imagine?

I wonder why "green traditionalist" is its own separate category. The others make sense, but not that one.

Also, notice that all categories are mostly white, with an Asian skew on some of them.

I must be one of those middle-of-the-road moderates.

I don't watch either.

Television? Does anybody actually watch that any more? I have one of those 'television' things around here somewhere. I wonder if it still works.

I am super liberal as I like Parenthood, The Killing, game of Thrones, etc.

Jon Stewart has clout. He does not use his real name like Johnny Carson did, which makes me wonder why not.

The best comedy show right now is CNN as they try to get fact checkers to rip apart Ryan's speech.

#9 for Ultra Conservatives...Wheel of Fortune...Who did this survey?

Maybe Liberals have such a hard time with football because their are people on both the Left and on the Right side of the ball, and that they actually vie with each other.  To liberals there is only the left side and opposition is irrelevant.

I'm dismayed that the finest show on television, Wheel of Fortune, is only #9 among "Super Conservatives".  Bunch of philistines, I tell ya.

As for my house, since I moved my 89-yr-old Dad up to Michigan to live with me, we pretty much just watch the Military Channel.

Doesn't surprise me at all. I live in the deep south, and I work in IT, and years ago we had a LUG here (Linux user group), and it was pretty evenly divided between conservatives and liberals. Before the meetings, the conservatives would talk about how great the game was that day, while the liberals would protest that football talk had no place in a LUG, and besides, football just reminded them of the bad ole' days of high school when jocks would beat them up, thankyouverymuch.

I watch Mad Men, but because I love good drama. Same for Sopranos, The Wire, Falling Skies, Big Bang Theory. I don't have much tolerance for reality shows, which if it has any political content, I'm unaware of it.

Maybe I'm thick today; what is this poll trying to say about correlation and causation?

We only finesse the rabbit ear antennae to try to get enough signal for college football, pro football, pro baseball and an occasional hockey or basketball game of interest. So the polling more or less held true for my household.

That being said, if I stumbled upon Wheel of Fortune I would be more than happy for the diversion! :)

I'm just the opposite. I prefer reality TV, specifically because it's largely politics free. Too many dramas are politically left, and most modern comedies leave me grimacing more than laughing.

Oh, for the days of Barney Miller and Hogan's Heroes.

Since we have no TV that gets a signal, I cannot respond.

I did notice that the Ultraconservatives and the Green Traditionalists skewed female, and that fits with what I have seen of the Tea Party gatherings. The mainstream media appears to be deliberately omitting something.

What's killing me -- and I know is killing Pat -- is that hockey is the one sport that managed to sneak into the liberal category. Throw enough French and Russian names into anything, I guess, and liberals will feel compelled to watch.

Seems like Ultra Conservatives don't pay for cable. An awful lot of over-the-air television there, with the exception of sports.

Also, as pointed out by Paul A. Rahe, the demographic skews female, which explains the soap opera stuff.

Presumably, Ultra Conservative families tend to have more stay at home moms watching daytime television.

Not a single cable channel that makes drama/comedy shows on that list: AMC, HBO, Showtime, USA.

Personally, I never converted to the new TV antennas for digital signal, and I don't pay for cable TV, so their sample group doesn't represent me.

I do pay for cable internet though.

So I watch movies/tv shows using Amazon Video on Demand or Netflix.

How is it Lary the Cable Guy is more popular with Green Tradtionalist than all the other demographics.

I must be in one of the 5 catigories they have data on but did not publicly publish because only 2 of the 25+ TV shows I follow are on any of these list.

Wheel of Fortune? That's still on? ;)

I'm schizoid according to this analysis. I love football *and* Mad Men.

For the most part, attempts to define poeple by cultural affectations is an attempt to label folks as "the other", and advance the politics of a given perspective (okay, lefty perspective) by associating the cool shows with people of said perspective, implying that if you're cool you watch thses shows *and* you have these politics.

Oh, and that's real AMERICAN football, not soccer :)

If he went by Jon Leibowitz, more of his viewers might realize that Chief Operating Officer of the New York Stock Exchange is his brother.

As for why he changed his name, I think he is the poster-child for self-hating Jew.
