Cognitive Dissonance
Our friend Simon Templar truly is a Saint. He likes to argue with liberals.
The problem here is that it's hard to argue logically with people who hold views that are inherently contradictory. Here's my favorite from this week:
When arguing for a carbon tax, liberal politicians and their followers make the argument that government interference that artificially increases the cost of something will decrease the demand for it. When arguing for an increase in the minimum wage, liberal politicians and their followers make the argument that government interference which artificially increases the cost of something will not decrease the demand for it.
So which is it?
What is your favorite liberal contradiction?

Here are two of my favorites:
They believe in Darwinism and survival of the fittest, yet reject Free Market Capitalism and success of the fittest
They support pro-homosexuality and Muslims who hold to Sharia law, which is violently anti-homosexual.

States can enact laws that mirror federal immigration laws but they cannot enforce them, even if state law enforcement authorities had previously been enlisted to help federal authorities under a formal cooperation agreement. In the meantime, federal authorities ignore violations of federal immigation law and only selectively cooperate with local authorities in legitimate criminal cases where the perpetrators admit or are known to be here illegally.

Cutting taxes on businesses lowers Federal revenue (or even if occasionally acknowledged to raise revenues, it's not "fair")
Unemployment payouts raise Federal revenue by creating jobs.
Contradiction and inaccuracy in one package.

Conservatives are racists for opposing liberal policies that have contributed to almost tripling the percentage (24% in 1965 to 72% in 2012) of black babies born to single mothers.
How could I not respond after that shout out?

Re: Cognitive Dissonance
In Democrat parlance, fair is when someone else pays for your benefits. Since politicians tell you that you are entitled to more and government must borry to give it to you, obviously those paying are not paying enough, which is unfair. The deficits and debt that result from this are evidence of this unfairness. Balance is achieved when those paying, pay more, not when those receiving, receive less.

2nd to post #1:
You're greedy and selfish for wanting to keep what you earn and not happily give it to government to spread it around for you.

I suppose the one that stands out to me is the fact that they are simultaneously zealously pro-choice and anti-discrimination.
We should start calling the NARAL types the pro-discrimination lobby.

Government employees need unions because government officials can't be trusted to treat employees fairly.
Medical care must be put in the hands of the government because government officials are the only people who can be trusted to distribute medical care fairly.

Re: Cognitive Dissonance
In this case, instead of favorite, I would say most tragic...Late term abortion is ok but the Scott Peterson's of the world should be tried for homicide of an unborn baby.
Bi-partisanship is when conservatives agree with liberals. When liberals oppose conservatives, it's patriotic (disclaimer: not responsible for the disturbing images accompanying this audio).

It's immoral to detain and harshly interrogate terrorist suspects, but it's acceptible to incinerate them, their families, and anyone else unlucky enough to be nearby.

Problem is, this is (I think) consistent with the Geneva Conventions. That is, in warfare you can kill your enemy but you cannot torture him.
Forget for a moment that waterboarding isn't torture; if the Left believes that it is, then it's not a contradiction for them to favor drone attacks over waterboarding.

My submission is:
"Bush's tax cuts for the rich."
Fact: the "rich's" share of tax payments relative to taxable income actually increased subsequent to Bush's tax rate cuts. But try to get a Leftist to actually engage in a debate on this. Won't happen. I've tried.

"Capitalism might be good for increasing the total amount of wealth, but it all goes to the rich! You need to think about the distribution, not just the amount of wealth."
"We need to reduce the number of guns, because they kill people!" (No thought to the distribution of guns, just the total amount.)

My favorite is the mantra of "Get out of my uterus!" while demanding taxpayer-funded contraceptives. It is also amusing that we went from "Marriage is just a piece of paper," to "Marriage is a right!"

Anti Death Penality - killing is wrong for any reason, innocents get killed
Anti War - killing is wrong for any reason, innocents get killed
Pro Abortion - killing is ok if the mother decides to do it, an unborn child does not count as an innocent

I'm more interested in puncturing their myths. Like that Nixon or Dubya were right-wingers or that JFK was a bleeding heart liberal.
They drown their contradictions in their good intentions.

It is absolutely forbidden to discriminate against females, except at the abortionist's office.
