One more reason to love Clint Eastwood. Via Hot Air:

Clint Eastwood, legendary actor and director, told Katie Couric that while President Obama is a "nice fella," he's "not a fan of what he's doing at the moment.

During an interview about his latest film "Hereafter," Eastwood told Couric that the president is not "governing" and he's laying out lines in the hopes that people will believe him "so he can stay in his position."

Eastwood, who was once the Mayor of Carmel, Calif., expressed his view on the political election process.

"I don't think there's anybody I see out there, or many people that have that kind of discipline, that are willing to take a chance on losing."

"I just don't think he's governing," Eastwood said, "he's having to just lay out a certain line and hope that people will believe it to stay in the position."

That made my day

Isn't it great? I wish he had been more explicit--what exactly is he not a fan of?--but I'm sure Couric didn't want him dwelling too much on that.

Clint is a great American. He made the most of every opportunity that came his way, and created others. Considering how corrupt, narcissistic, selfish, and self-indulgent the entertainment world is - and that goes double for Tinsel Town - Eastwood is all the more amazing.

I'll never forget the panic that swept the uber-progressive community when he ran for mayor of Carmel, California. They screamed that he would turn the charming and historic town into a mega shopping mall, with Armed Forces recruiting centers and a GOP headquarters on every corner. He was elected on a platform of overturning such 'progressive' laws as the ban on eating ice cream in public.

His last few films have been first-rate, including Invictus, Gran Torino, Million Dollar Baby, Flags of Our Fathers, Letters From Iwo Jima, Unforgiven; the list is long.

I'm going to see his latest, Hereafter, this evening.

I disagree with the idea that Obama isn't willing to take a chance on losing. I'm one of those who subscribe to the theory that he has no interest in a second term if he can get his awful agenda passed in one term.

Of course, I doubt he thought he'd have to get his agenda passed in only two years...

Yeah, I agree with you on that. I'm not really clear what he was trying to say here:

I don't think there's anybody I see out there, or many people that have that kind of discipline, that are willing to take a chance on losing.

I think that's an enigmatic statement. Is he saying Obama should stand up to his base? Or give up his more extreme policies for more moderate ones? Or something else altogether?

Sorry Emily, I like Clint too, but will look elsewhere for political judgement.

It's a "Shut Up and Sing" thing. We like these people in their roles, don't know them in their lives, and still listen to their politics ?

Clint carried the gun well, was incredibly menacing, yet cool . Sitting in the dark , I never once wondered whether he felt strongly about tariff issues, immigration, or the economy. Now he is in charge of the whole film, his creation of a world can speak for him, witness Gran Torino.

He also has no fear of David Geffen and those types. I know how he feels because he plays alot of golf and piano, is involved with his children, loves his country and it shows through his ouevre, not Katie Couric trying to tease him into something.

We pay these people to pretend.

Morning television is too fluffy anyway.

I agree with you about "shut up and sing." Usually, if a celebrity is rehashing some political trope of bromide, my first reaction is "shut up and sing." But if a celebrity says something surprising and fresh, I tend to take note of it.

Mr. Eastwood's always impressed me for seeming so essentially laid-back about everything. I can just see him saying "He's a nice fella" in that laconic style of his. And I believe him. So I also believe him when he says he doesn't think Obama is governing. No histrionics, no fireworks. Just a calm, measured opinion. I wish I had his temperament.

Clint's promoting his new film, Hereafter, and that's the reason he agreed to enter Katie Couric's overheated arena. Film is is the only medium he uses to influence the world now.

Couric desperately needs to gin up her sagging ratings to justify her Zepopelin-sized paycheck, so of course she's trying to get him to say something provocative and infuriating to somebody.

Eastwood sees her coming a mile away and is trying to be as mild-mannered and non-controversial as possible within the dictates of his conscience. He's looking pretty darn good for an eighty-year-old guy, don't you think?

Good analysis! And yes, he's a pretty handsome man. I want to know his secret. Maybe it's that he's so laid back.

BTW, Hereafter is a beautiful, quality film; a love story in its essence. Like Invictus, it has the feel of a foreign film, without Hollywood's fingerprints on it.
