Christmas in Paris and Istanbul

It was snowing last night in Istanbul, and surprisingly, Istanbul is almost as decorative for Christmas as Paris. Can you guess which city these photos are from?
(Tip: If you want to play, don't mouse over the photos: It will give it away. There's no prize, so you'll only be spoiling your own fun.)

Still no snow here in Paris, Claire. Joyrides fêtes, as my iPhone wants to say.

I got it right too! The plates etc are the give-away. Three or four years ago I was in Istanbul the week after Christmas. It was just like this - Christmas decorations everywhere - but so warm that we ate lunch outside in t-shirts. In London today it's mild and grey. Have a good day, Claire, as Ricochet commissar. I'm off to join the family for Christmas lunch - I'm only here at home this morning because of the health crisis with our cat Polly, who's diabetic and had a hypoglycaemic attack the night before last - very scary, we nearly lost her. I'm sure your cats are glad to have you back.
Re: Christmas in Paris and Istanbul
Oh, no--I'm so glad she made it through. Merry Christmas to you, Gaby, and to Liz and Polly, too.

Ditto x 2 !!! Plus, for me, a learning experience, particularly given the turmoil reported from Istanbul. Once again, Claire, you offer up some hope.
Merry Christmas to you, with thanks for watching over Ricochet today!

When I read that in your recent chores post I wondered if a cat/cats had been involved in creating that need. My cat chews on cords all the time, and it just drives me dizzy! ... Years and years ago one evening my roommate and I were sitting cross-legged on my bed talking about whatever when all of a sudden, her dog squealed bloody murder, banged his head against the bottom of the bed, and ran out of the room squealing—at almost the very second that the lamp blew out. I was worried he had really hurt himself, poor baby, but I think he was more scared than physically hurt and, unfortunately for me, would never come back in my room (loved that dog). ...
I too could tell the difference in the photos (not one of your harder challenges). The domed glass (so lovely), the earthen tones, the small shop setup all seemed more Eastern than the snowy, rather showy window display. ... Hope you have a good day at the helm and that the new year offers nothing but navigable waters.

Oh yes, you bet. And I have found no solution to this problem. What's up with cats and phone cords?

It's not just cats. Chipmunks, too, and squirrels. Of course, in the case of rodents, it's that they need to gnaw. Cats don't, so... what's up with that?
I've heard that ants will eat your wires, too. The animal kingdom is a mysterious place.

Apparently dogs too ... but, seriously, we know why dogs do it, but cats are supposed to be smart ...

While not officially listed as one of the Top Ten Sign Your Cat is Trying to Kill You, it does prevent the authorities from finding our handiwork until we've had a chance to spruce the place up.

Re: Christmas in Paris and Istanbul
I had a puppy once that chewed on lamp cords. One day we found him in full attack mode, growling and hackles up, looking just like he had cornered a wild animal behind the end table. Of course there was nothing there but a frayed lamp cord, which had apparently bitten him back.
We named him Sparky.
