Christmas Eve, 2010
Again the Ghost sped on, above the black and heaving sea--on, on--until, being far away, as he told Scrooge, from any shore, they lighted on a ship. They stood beside the helmsman at the wheel, the look-out in the bow, the officers who had the watch; dark, ghostly figures in their several stations; but every man among them hummed a Christmas tune, or had a Christmas thought, or spoke below his breath to his companion of some bygone Christmas Day, with homeward hopes belonging to it. And every man on board, waking or sleeping, good or bad, had had a kinder word for another on that day than on any day in the year; and had shared to some extent in its festivities; and had remembered those he cared for at a distance, and had known that they delighted to remember him."
Merry Christmas, to our members, readers, contributors, editors, and backstage crew. It's the first Ricochet Christmas -- the first of many and many more, I hope -- and if you're a member, we thank you; if you're a reader, we thank you (and hope you'll become a member this year!); and if you're enjoying what's happening here at Ricochet, please invite your friends and family to join.
There's more to come in 2011 -- primaries, debates, the continuing education of our all-knowing president, more live chats, more podcasts, and more great conversations. We thank you for joining us, we hope to see more of you next year, and in the meantime, we wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas.

Dickens. That man really could sling prose, couldn't he?
Merry Christmas, Mr. Long.

Rob- Thank you for that wonderful quote and your kind wishes.
100 years ago my family celebrated Christmas in the mining camps around Morenci Arizona. This afternoon we will meet at my brother's home overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. I thank God for this nation.
100 years later and we still celebrate Christmas the same way: tamales on the patio with beer, music, family and friends.
Merry Christmas to all.

Rob, thank you for posting the wonderful quote. I believe that I shall read it to my large extended family at tonight's Christmas Eve dinner. I thoroughly enjoy Ricochet and I'm happy to be a member. Merry Christmas to all!

Merry Christmas.
And, as one of the younger Ricochet members, I'm think I'm qualified to say: God bless us, every one.

Re: Christmas Eve, 2010
Merry Christmas to everyone on Ricochet! I am still not quite sure how I got here, but I've been here from the very first podcast, and was an early Facebook fan. Something tells me Mark Steyn was involved. Whatever, I feel like I have a nice new group of friends, who help me articulate why I am a conservative. Plus it's nice to not be the only pen freak.

Re: Christmas Eve, 2010
T'was a time when I wrote my daughter a Christmas story every year. One September she came to me and asked if I planned to write her a story that year. I foolishly asked what she had in mind. She said "A ghost story." I gotta tell ya, I died right there on the spot, and that because there is only one ghost story involving Christmas. I will only add that, for better or worse, I completed the assignment. Now I suppose in my life there are two ghost stories that involve Christmas, one much the better than the other. Merry Christmas, and thank you all!
