Chris Rock on an Obama Second Term
On the podcast, "WTF with Marc Marion," Chris Rock speculated about how President Obama might govern in a second term. "I'm like everybody," said Rock, "I want more action. But I understand he's trying not to piss off a lot of people. But I believe wholeheartedly if he's back in, he's going to do some gangsta [expletive]."
Politico reports more details. Rock supports Obama, and by my interpretation, Rock seems to favor the "gangsta [expletive]" that he believes Obama would do.
This reminds me of a Correspondents' Dinner during the George W. Bush years. Greta van Sustern had invited heavy metal star, Ozzy Osbourne as her guest. As Bush left the dinner, Osbourne pointed to his long, stringy, pink and brown hair and shouted, "Mr. President, you should wear your hair like mine." Bush responded, "Second term, Ozzy."

Re: Chris Rock on an Obama Second Term
We'd all be better off if Chris stuck with comedy, Ozzy stuck to Rock and Obama had stuck to rabble rousing.

Too bad we can't sew legs onto this story and walk it out on the evening news.
never happen. Ever wonder just how many things we sit around and talk about that never ever see the light of MSM day ?
Of course you have already quantified this conundrum.
Do you think that even if we were to take over the entire MSM in a day, that we could make any impact on the closed minds of the left ?
I understand the weather effect and chinese water torture, but within a years time, how much influence could be reasonably created . ( in a perfect world scenario )

Re: Chris Rock on an Obama Second Term
Somebody should let Rock know: Obama has done enough "gansta [expletive]" already.

Re: Chris Rock on an Obama Second Term
Actually, Rock makes a good point...and it's the BIGGEST reason O has to be defeated. There will be NO restrictions on his unconstitutional power moves if he's reelected...end of republic.

I read the Politico article. I plead total ignorance, still. What is "gangsta [expletive]"? (I know what the asterisks replace so don't go there.) What is being implied here? What is Mr. Rock advocating?

Apologies to Prof. Groseclose for the bowdlerization of the Chris Rock quotation and to those Members who referenced it before it was changed. Mr. Rock doesn't quite live up to Ricochet's high standards of conduct :)

Re: Chris Rock on an Obama Second Term
While I disagree with his judgment in this case, I see no reason to believe that Mr. Osbourne was unqualified to recommend a hairstyle to the President. It is unfortunate when foolish celebrities gain traction for unfortunate views despite a complete ignorance of the field that they are discussing, but it is my understanding that Mr. Osbourne has thought long and hard on the subject of hairstyles and image, discussed the matter with experts, and that his views on the subject are not much less interesting than most pundit's views on the subject. I'll admit that I may be biased by Bush's awesome response.

"Bowdlerization." Wow, now that's one [expletive] good word!

Dear Lord please let there be no second sizzle in the White Hizzle.
Rock is a sycophant and he shall follow his messiah to his own detriment and never even realize he was in love with an empty suit of an idea.

Re: Chris Rock on an Obama Second Term
What strikes me in the Rock quote is how much it mirrors comments made by many of my very liberal friends -- those who might have a PQ of 85+. These friends constantly assert that Obama is "caving in" on every issue. That he hasn't stood up to the Republicans, and that he has been a weak advocate for their position. One can see an example of this in the Funny or Die "Presidential Candidates as D&D Characters" bit.
Given the lack of transparency, Obamacare, the expansion of regulations, and the many bully tactics that Obama has used, I find these claims incredible. None the less, these claims are made and people are serious when they make them -- they are lacking in irony.
Their opinions are somewhat describable by cognitive reactions I recently read about in Daniel Kahneman's "Thinking, Fast and Slow." Knowing that doesn't make me feel any better about their cognitive dissonance.

Re: Chris Rock on an Obama Second Term
Fwiw, I think that they're broadly right. If Obama returns, a: Obamacare becomes way harder to repeal, but more importantly b: he will do everything in his power to pass the Employee Free Choice Act, which would permanently transform America. That, and he'll cut the defense budget by absurd amounts.

Re: Chris Rock on an Obama Second Term
The best thing about this quote is that everyone can put their own interpretation on whether "gansta [expletive]" is positive or negative. If Rock was a Republican, and I saw that quote, I'd be nodding my head. Like most swearing, it ends up meaning nothing.
Also, in case you don't follow Andy Levy on Twitter, Norm MacDonald's (who's a conservative) appearance on Marc's show is pretty great and deep for a comedian.
