Chris Lee, You Fool--What Were You Thinking?
Which Christopher Lee do you prefer? The 39-year-old divorced lobbyist who prowls Craigslists' "Women Seeking Men" section, where he describes himself as a "very fit fun classy guy," and sends out shirtless photos of himself to women looking for dates/casual encounters? Or the 46-year-old Republican congressmen from New York who, according to one of his aides, is "happily married" with a young son?
Turns out that the two Lees are the same guy!--kind of. The real Christopher Lee--the Republican congressmen, not the Craigslist playboy--has been misrepresenting himself on Craigslist in an attempt to meet women casually. In reaching out to at least one woman on the site, he used his real name and his real gmail address (really, congressman?) but said that he was a 39-year-old divorced lobbyist. He also posted the above shirtless photo of himself on the site, causing one woman whom he interacted with there to inquire, "Are you sure that's not a photo from a Jcpenney ad?" Lee responded: "Lol…no…Here.. I just took one..i'm relaxing at home."
Here is his initial e-mail to that woman:
Hi,
Hope I'm not a toad. :) i'm a very fit fun classy guy. Live in Cap Hill area. 6ft 190lbs blond/blue. 39.. Lobbyist. I promise not to disappoint.
Gag!
Check out their full correspondence here.
That woman saw through Lee's flimsy facade and forwarded their e-mail correspondence to Gawker.com, a gossip site that busted Lee yesterday afternoon. Within hours Lee announced his resignation, apologizing for his "profound mistakes."
The married 46-year-old father of one issued a statement announcing his immediate resignation, and apologizing for "the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents.
"I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all," said Lee, who represents an upstate district that extends from the outskirts of Buffalo to the city limits of Rochester. "I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness."
It all happened so quickly that you have to wonder what other naughtiness the Craigslist playboy was tied up in (pun intended).
On another note--how did Lee not realize that he would absolutely, without a doubt, get caught? The man made no attempt to cover his tracks!

He should have settled for a "work spouse."

Re: Chris Lee, You Fool--What Were You Thinking?
What is it with guys sending semi-clad pictures? It's a rare guy who looks better unclothed. So that's counterproductive for a start. "Yeah, this is just me chillin with my shirt off". Dear Lord.
Second, if you have to describe yourself (or anything) as "classy", then you're not.
Third, if you must (and he must, apparently having run for office so he could score with chicks), use discretion, man. As I always have to remind Dave Carter, never use a credit card.

Man, I guess it's really hard to meet good mistresses these days.

He'd have much better success with women if he simply joined Ricochet and posted Youtube videos of Mark Steyn. And, if I may so, Mr. Lee needs a lot more fur on his chest.

And another thing, this guy has completely destroyed the credibility of those of us who are actually 39YO and 6ft, with blue eyes. (Call me, ladies, I promise not to disappoint).

I fully realize that a great deal of liberal policy is genitaliacentric, but why is this stuff treated as news? It's like the press is always shocked that conservatives have sex.

Christopher Lee was my favorite vampire.

YES! Classy people don't use the word "classy," especially not to describe themselves.
Re: Chris Lee, You Fool--What Were You Thinking?
Thanks for the reminder Kennedy. But I would never do anything like that for free in the first instance.

Well, recall that this Republican had the gall to have opinions contrary to the zeitgeist on sexual mores, and if there's one unpardonable sin that Liberals worship at the grail of its the sin of hypocrisy.

At least he didn't say he was "non-elite". Shudder.

Re: Chris Lee, You Fool--What Were You Thinking?
At some level he probably did know he would get caught but the flesh is weak. With some men, the testosterone poisoning at midlife is a replay of the one that occurred when they were 17. It’s actually worse because at 17 he was not encumbered by family obligations and it was easier and more respectable to indulge and gratify it.
Women are privileged to claim all sorts of excuses for their bad behavior by blaming it on their hormones. They get sympathy and forgiveness for their nonsense excuses no man would ever get. Think Andrea Yates. And there was the PMS defense that was tried in American courts to justify violent behavior? It was actually taken seriously for a while.
So far no male has tried to defend his actions by blaming his hormones. Even sex-crazed guys in their 40s know it wouldn’t work.

Re: Chris Lee, You Fool--What Were You Thinking?
Of course hypocritical sex is worse than unprotected sex. Wasn't Clinton's defense that no one on his side of the aisle takes their marriage vows seriously to begin with so it can't be cheating? It's only sex, right?

I forgot about the Bill Clinton exception. But he didn’t blame his hormones, he blamed Republicans and it worked. And I forgot about professional athletes.
I guess you can be sex crazed and get away with it if enough other people are star struck and crazy. It won’t work for any Republican.

It's the Alvin Greene school of seduction. There's adorably hapless, and then there's just gross. Have we ever asked Ursula about that phenomenon?
Re: Chris Lee, You Fool--What Were You Thinking?
What's truly amazing is this: if you go to Craigslist and look through that section -- or any section, frankly, in the personals -- it's clear that Lee's ad is indeed classy, the classiest one there. Compared to the rest of those ads in that swamp (I went there this morning, just for research you understand) Lee seems like Prince Philip.
