Christine O’Donnell’s campaign does not look like a winner, and – as Anne Applebaum and others, including Ricochet’s Diane Ellis, have pointed out, her campaign advertisements are frequently more than a little embarrassing. This is not, however, true of each and every one of them. Consider, for example this one:

The Republicans ought to do a version of this advertisement in every Congressional district and in every state in the land.

One minute, three seconds...not meant for TV. Too bad.

Emily Esfahani Smith, Ed.

It's a great ad -- I love the line about Coons wanting to tax a 911 call. Absurd.

Paul, what do you think of Rush's point that Democrats must not believe Coons is sitting pretty if Obama plans to campaign for him? And Obama has a history of hurting the candidates he seeks to help. Doesn't this bode well for O'Donnell?

You would think that to reach out to voters who wouldn't otherwise be persuaded, you'd want to remind them of this (actual song starts about two and a half minutes in).

Why not unite on fiscal policy by bridging the cultural divide with a cute "countercultural" tune?

It might. This is a most unusual year, and Coons' internal polling may show that he is vulnerable. I would not bet the bank against any Republican this year. But, like Diane and others, I think most of her advertisements unattractive.

Not everything has to be on TV. You're talking about it now.

Guilty as charged.

This ad is a winner. The only thing missing is George Harrison singing in the background.

Were her first 2 adds effective; 1) They got an extraordinary amount of free air time. +++, 2) they were intended to make an emotional connection with “ordinary people” not present a rational argument to people holding PHD’s + She hired one of the best political pros in the business. Her primary theme seems to me to be the common guy against the elites. I think the adds probably accomplished what they were meant to do.

As to Applebaum’s and Elliss’s dislike of the Yale add. Probably it is correct to surmise that a relatively high percentage of the best and the brightest attended Ivy League schools. It is probably also correct to surmise that a relatively high percentage of the arrogant and asinine also attend these schools. Is it possible that people’s irritation with the Ivy League persona has more to do with distain for latter group rather than envy of the former?

That ad is spectacular. It has some serious Pablo Francisco action:
