Cheer Me Up.
I'm demoralized.
Work has been crushingly busy. I've been getting most of my news in soundbites and headlines. I imagine I'm getting the news that most people see, not the politically obsessed like all of us. That news is bad, bad, bad. What should be a great week for Romney has been one of the worst, thanks to the media. Generally speaking, I agree with Rob Long -- quit whining about media bias and deal with it. After this week, though, I want to take a baseball bat to most media outlets. And frankly, I don't know what to do about it. 98% of the people I encounter on a daily basis aren't old enough to vote, even if I could justify proselytizing on the job. Persuading people on the internet is the punchline to a bad joke. I just have to endure this endless parade of lies, straw men, and twisted narratives. Drusus Agonistes, indeed.
I'll still pull the lever, a meaningless gesture in my red, red state. Five cents, psychiatric help for this Charlie Brown. (Not really.)

lone conservative: First of all, step away and get some rest. Second, keep coming here. It's what I do when I'm close to the ledge, which directly correlates to how tired and busy I am. Also, meet regularly with your conservative friends.
First post for me here -- Hi everyone! Love it here and think it is a funny, thoughtful group. I haven't done my own post because I don't think I can live up to the cleverness and thoughtfulness of you all. But, if I get any more frustrated, you just might hear from me. You have been warned! :) · 10 minutes ago

Re: Cheer Me Up.
John Lukacs, the historian, has a good phrase: Second-generation newspaper readers. Which means that although most of us walk around with the look of slack-jawed determination that inbred hillbillies get when they think about rabbits, the general population isn't all that unsophisticated about this stuff.
OK. Too subtle to be cheery. Try translating "Calma te, cabrona." Always works when I say it to myself. Couple that with the wise, but unheeded, Dem parlimentarian's: You have to let them do what they're going to do.
Finally. See wisdom above. Kittens. Kittens never fail.

Re: Cheer Me Up.
Hi Drusus, my advice would be to stop look at the snap shots, and take a look at the trends. Every week Obama has been losing support and every week Romney has been gaining support.
Look at these Electoral College maps. Start at the beginning and look at the trend.
Look at these Gallup Polls.
Look at this Electoral College predictor that has not been wrong since 1980 predict Romeny in alandslid. And yes that is a link to the Huffington Post.
Look at these Rasmussen polls showing Romeny destroying Obama's lead in swing states
Look at this CNBC poll showing 75% of Americans agree with Romney's 47% comment.
Romney is a slow and steady campaigner. There will probably never be a big dramatic moment of victory in the Romney campaign, but that isn't what Romney needs to win. All Romney has to do to win, and win big, is keep these trends continuing. Look at the big picture and I think you will feel better
Also, if you haven't already, stop getting your news from Politico until the Election season is over. They have gone into full reelection mode. Start going to instapundit instead.

Re: Cheer Me Up.
The next debate is going to be the first real engagement between the two sides. I think the Romney team is just sitting tight, and keeping their powder dry. Don't give any ammunition to the other side that they can use to prepare a response.
I take a lot of heart from the fact that the Romney team is used to fighting in hostile territory. They won in MA, and are based in Boston. These are folks who know how to win in areas where they are surrounded by people that think they spend their off time juggling kittens.
The media (including much of the Conservative punditry apparently) crave news like Rob's neighbors crave munchies, and the Romney team isn't giving them anything of substance. So, they begin to twitch and run with rediculous items like we have seen lately.
It will all be forgotten when Romney lands his first blow during the debate. Until then, relax.

Re: Cheer Me Up.
I also think they know it is their next big chance to speak directly to the American people without the filter of the media. When Romney gives a speech now, no matter what he says, all you hear about it is, "The Romney campaign, reeling from the 47% video, today desperately tried to change the subject by appearing (insert swing state here.)"
Ever notice they don't tell you how large and enthusiastic the crowds are? Or how much money he raised at a fundraiser?
Screw them. After this election, we focus on the presstitutes' financial death. For now, Mitt is keeping his talking points to himself (so they have to spend time "fact checking") and he's staying frosty. We should too.

I noticed on Drudge that the Obama's are house shopping in Hawaii... I am sure the new neighbors will not be happy with the secret service perimeter though.

Re: Cheer Me Up.
Fred Cole: Here's three things:
1. The national popular vote polls are about even.
2. It's Sept 20th. Lots of things can happen between now and November 6th.
3. Even of Obama wins, the sky will not fall, civilization will not end, America will not crumble into the sea. Life will go on.
3b. Second term presidents are always weaker, so Obama can do less harm.
3c. And he's really bad at being president, and he ain't gettin' any better, so that means he can do less harm than someone who is good at the job. · 5 hours ago
Very good points.
Still, I think the best strategy is to present the incoming President, whoever he may be, with a Congress solidly in Republican hands. Powerlineblog suggests six Republicans, three House, three Senate to support. As I stumble on spare change here and there, I throw it in the direction of these folks.

Ironic. I will be in Kailua ( right down the street) in 3 weeks at my own 2 acre beach house. OK, it's a patients house but I get to use it. I don't even need to be bribed like he is. 35 million...sheesh. That is a heck of a golden parachute he's getting.

Re: Cheer Me Up.
Hey Drusus, you don't have a kid that your pals nicknamed "little boots" right? It can't be all bad.
But if you want something positive about Mitt's electoral prospects here is a different Gallup poll full of good news. With job approval numbers like those Obama is a long, long way from closing the deal.
