I'm demoralized.

Work has been crushingly busy. I've been getting most of my news in soundbites and headlines. I imagine I'm getting the news that most people see, not the politically obsessed like all of us.  That news is bad, bad, bad. What should be a great week for Romney has been one of the worst, thanks to the media. Generally speaking, I agree with Rob Long -- quit whining about media bias and deal with it. After this week, though, I want to take a baseball bat to most media outlets. And frankly, I don't know what to do about it. 98% of the people I encounter on a daily basis aren't old enough to vote, even if I could justify proselytizing on the job. Persuading people on the internet is the punchline to a bad joke. I just have to endure this endless parade of lies, straw men, and twisted narratives. Drusus Agonistes, indeed.

I'll still pull the lever, a meaningless gesture in my red, red state. Five cents, psychiatric help for this Charlie Brown. (Not really.)

Ditto.  Try listening to Rush -- it'll help lift the spirits (I'm now on the first hour of Monday) and Hugh Hewitt as well (provided he lays off twiddling loose change near his mic).  We do need to stop listening to Peggy Noonan however.  Why in the world has Fox News hired an Obama voter away from a network with no audience, only to have her rip into Mitt?  Today's "blog" post on her new WSJ gig has Mitt looking into the abyss to get his mojo back.  I think he needs fewer NYC/DC corridor advisors and take a day to think about what he really wants for this country and to go before the nation with a national address (aka Perot).  He needs to tell the public that he gets it, and will work his heart out for this nation and how he'll do it.  No more generalities.  Compare and contrast with Obama.  Waiting for the debate will be too late, and too predictable.  Besides, most morons will wait to see how the networks characterize it.  He needs to beat the press to the punch.

I'm thinking those media people must be feeling a little panicky.  They had to bring out an "October surprises" early, to distract attention away from one Obama disaster after another, and it's evidently having less than no effect.

The public has mainly tuned them out.  They've still got the sycophants, but they had those anyway.

Which is not to say that they can't still do a lot of damage.  But today I'm feeling pretty good about our chances.  I'm with Rob and Andrew.  If I had to put money down today, I'd bet on Romney by a good margin.  Not a Reaganlike landslide, but not a squeaker either.

I've been catching up via podcast with Michael Medved this afternoon while baking.  He is very cheerful and optimistic and is good for what ails ya.

Do not read Peggy Noonan.

Try to find a local county fair and chat up the good people at the Republican booth.  If possible, find a sassy Englishwoman to go with and taunt the Dems at their booth. I did this once (20 years ago) with my British aunt, and it was very refreshing -- though hardly mature.

Spend a little time outside, walking around this beautiful land of ours.

Bake some cookies.  Remember: You baked that!  Then, think of the baker who refused the photo-op with Plugs Biden, and eat them in his honor.  Small business owners are going to rise up and take this goober prez down.

And, volunteer, if you can spare any time.  It helps to be surrounded by cheerful campaign people at hq -- believe me, I know.  If you live in WA, you've probably gotten a call on behalf of Dino Rossi or GWB from me on your machine.  Donate, if you can spare any cash.

I think it's all going to be OK.  Feel better.  :-)

Romney is going to win.  I feel it strongly.   When that is done you'll have a bunch of bewildered folks to explain how they believed a series of lies.  Have fun with that.

I have exciting news to cheer you up. One day, everyone will die. This only sounds like it should leave you more depressed, but you're just not looking at the world from a misanthropic lens! When all the people you dislike have you down, just take a walk to the graveyard, and remember that every last one of them will die. Better yet, they die on the very last day of their lives!

But if you're determined to let politics keep you down, maybe it will help to know that many countries around the world are actually getting things right. The island nation of Mauritius became the first African country to break into the top 10 on the Heritage Foundation's economic freedom index!

Drusus, I'm in the same boat as you.  I just don't see how Romney can close the deal.  I'm not getting any energy from this guy - I'm in Ohio and it just feels like he's given up here.  Not enough ads, no signs, no bumper stickers even in safe areas.

Just when I thought you weren't a troll...or what?  Are these the jokes?

Ask the kulaks about whether socialism didn't kill them.  Alas, they cannot answer, their wormy remains fertilized one of the little father's five year plans...  That was "socialism in one country," wasn't it?

I'm sorry, but I can't believe Romney would give up on Ohio.  Are you in some dem stronghold like Cuyahoga County or something?

I just randomly watched Mitt & Ann on Live w/ Kellie and Michael (http://www.rightspeak.net/2012/09/mitt-ann-romney-interview-on-live-full.html), which (perhaps oddly) cheered me up. But there were people enthusiastically cheering his talking points in the crowd, no rudeness by anyone, Kellie Ripa and Michael Strahan were friendly and funny, and Mitt & Ann came off and nice, normal people. And people still watch that show, don't they?

After getting so much overanalysis of every little thing from the punditry and negativity on every side, it was just nice to think that regular people might watch that and come away with a good impression.

And skipsul, I'd love to see more from Romney in Ohio, but I don't get the feeling that he's given up on it at all. And I'm heartened by the fact that the most signs I'm seeing right now are for Josh Mandel for Senate and other conservatives in down-ticket races -- definitely more than I've seen for Obama or the down-ticket liberals.

Jokes aside, my brood will die on their feet rather than live on their knees.  I've raised them a bit differently than the teacher's union might like.

Go buy some bumper stickers and yard signs.   Fight like hell where you are.  Stay focused on what you can do.  If you are financially challenged or can't find any I'll buy some for you and your friends. Seriously.

romney shirt

This is a shirt I've been wearing around.  I will fight  until the bitter end.   Obama 1 was expected, I never doubted he would win handily.  Obama 2 is very very different.  Even the media in full spin mode has the man at even with Mitt.    The fact is Obama just plain stinks and 51% of swing state voters will pull the lever accordingly.

First of all, I agree with Sawatdeeka's comment.  Next, listen to what many conservative commentators are saying: there is a massive effort by the media to demoralize conservatives.  They're directing a lot of bluster at us.  Make that harden your resolve to defeat the Democrats in November.  We have a difficult task, but not an impossible one.

And don't pick up a baseball bat; pick up a sign with a catchy (and mordant) slogan and protest the media at their offices and studios.  At least that's the idea I propose at my post.

(Leave a comment.  Do you think this is a viable idea?  I think the Tea Party needs to come to the rescue.)
