Imagine it's a year from now and the two presidential candidates are getting ready to debate.

If I'm negotiating on the Republican's behalf, I'm insisting upon an audio-visual portion of the show.

And I'm showing this chart -- actual unemployment vs. what the bag of beans that Obama promised.

unemployment

Pretty good argument for one (term) and done, no?

And that's without charts for runaway debt, government spending, consumer confidence, foreclosures, gasoline prices, health-insurance premiums, and so forth . . .

Is making the case against Obama really all that difficult -- or should we be more concerned about the Republican candidate making his/her case?

Making the case against Obama is the easiest thing on the face of the planet...except for The Stupid Party.

We should always worry about Republicans articulating the case.  Even this time.

I don't think this will convince anyone but the already convinced.  Sorry.

The 'with' and 'without' predictions were made by people long gone from the administration, and I think "didn't guess the future perfectly" won't be damning in everyone's eyes.

It is just too easy to say "we were handed a situation worse than we thought, and without the stimulus the trends would have been worse than they are".  Easy to say, hard to refute.

The economy does not help Obama and will therefore be irrelevant. Let's peek into the future:

Wolf Blitzer: Welcome back to this CNN/GE Presidential debate. Now we turn to the important topic of religion. I remind viewers that this channel proudly remains a Rev Wright free zone. Mr President, many people consider you to be a living God, and at the least a messiah. Will those racist rednecks who refuse to vote for you be eternally damned? ...

Wolf Blitzer: Thank you Mr President, I do indeed feel blessed. Republican Candidate, many accuse the crazy cult of which you are a member of unnatural practices. When you are eating live babies, are the voices in your head more properly described as demonic or infernal?

You're exactly right, genferei.

The ability to make the case depends on the media, and they're not interested in making it.

I'd say that Paul Ryan has been making the case, for instance, quite effectively ... if you've heard it. But which is more likely: that you've seen the Paul Ryan videos, read his articles, and seen his interviews ... or you've seen that ad where the Ryan-lookalike pushes grandma off the cliff?
