Can Season 11 of Dancing With The Stars predict 2012?
I'm long past my self consciousness about being a DWTS fan. I'm a TV fan and it's a major live TV achievement. Bristol Palin made the finals last night beating out Brandy, who I thought should win the whole thing. However, I actually only vote for Bristol. Why? She's adorable and real. Don't we all want to reward that? She makes no effort to be anyone other than herself. Who are these other celebrities? Who knows? They're paid to be phony.
The P.D. that hired me as a morning host in L.A. said people are evolving away from phony. They wouldn't tolerate another traditional morning show broadcasty voice in L.A. Mine sounds like Kermit the frog. Was he right? Maybe, but perhaps more ahead of his time than anything.
I like Sarah Palin because she's adorable and real, just like her daughter, and her whole family. I'm evolving away from phony, for sure. I chose the "real" Ramones over KISS in high school.
I wonder if the message from Season 11's DWTS is that real is going to win over phony in 2012 too. No matter what kind of skill set you think the Palin's come to the table with, watch out. They are able to get tons and tons of votes from people all across America.

Ramones over KISS? I strongly object.

Formulaic isn't the same as fake. AC/DC's songs are almost interchangeable, but they're popular for good reason. Not every work of art has to be the Sistine Chapel.
But I agree that people often, though not always, yearn for something real. Fiction is admirable when it directs us to truth.
Right now, a lot of Americans want their entertainment straight up... shaken, not stirred.

All the props go to the DWTS producers. Whether you are tuning in to sneer or turning in to cheer -- you're still tuning in...

Well said, Joe. It's why so many Americans are put-off by the irrational hatred toward Sarah Palin. She's viewed as a real, normal person, and when the left attacks her, they're attacking real, normal people everywhere. They're attacking probably 200 million others in America (leaving 100+ million as frauds and abnormal). The left doesn't get it. I'm not that high on Palin as a presidential candidate, but if she runs, and gets the kind of hate-filled opposition she has received since she ran for VP, I'll be strongly supporting her -- a vote for real and normal. This nation needs it.

I figured that would get someone. They're both arguable created images, but in the 70s, one was makeup and the other was an "anti-image." Today if you look like the Ramones, you're as phony as KISS.

Johnny Ramone was famously conservative.

Ok, Joe, I will join you in admitting that I actually watch DWTS as well. I never did before this season, but Bristol got me hooked. She is the only contestant that has no experience performing before large crowds or cameras, and has had to deal with nerves more than the others. And, she's done it very well, improving every week. No wonder people relate to her and like her.
I do think, though, that Brandy has been the best overall. It's a shame she won't be in the final.
What gets me most, though, is how emotional people can get over the fact that a Palin would dare go on tv. Get over it.
Oh, and The Ramones rock. KISS sucks.

Welcome to the club Jason. Bristol may have received most of the votes. We don't know. It's quite possible and unprecidented on the show for someone like this to go to the finals. I am nervous that she might actually win now that there is so much attention on her. Now that they're attacking Willow you might as well ad 20% more backlash votes in favor of Bristol. They will never learn.
I think it might be due to the fact that Johnny Ramone was a conservative that his family have me host his tribute at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery each year. No one ever mentions that but it's cool, and I love doing it. Let's never stop talking about Dancing on Richochet, OK? can we just all agree on that?

If I correctly recall, Gene Simmons is openly libertarian, not lefty, so you do have a quandary there.

I do like what it says about Mrs. Palin that her daughter seems to enjoy large popularity. While I quit the DWTS watching a few years ago for an un-related reason, I'm at least interested to see who is on the show and what that says about the producers. You can rest assured I'll be watching the A&E show when it starts. Mrs. Palin reminds me of a lot of women I know who live in my rural, ranching and farming, redneck part of the world. Her style and views are immensley popular here. If she ran for Premier of Alberta as the leader of a new political party, her party would win in a landslide.
