CB RES 1500 3 July 2010: Making supplemental appropriations for an iPad
Rob, you're so appallingly negative! So glass-half-empty! Personally, I am not the least dismayed by this development. I am indeed inspired. It's such a creative solution--so worthy of our long American tradition of ingenious problem-solving! In fact, so impressed am I by this inventive solution to the budget problem that as of today, I deem my own budget into existence, and I deem it passed. I'd been worried about the little details before (like where the money would come from, say, and what I could afford) but now I see I've been troubling myself needlessly.
I've been hankering after an iPad for a while now--my brother got one and he just loves it--but I thought I just couldn't remotely justify it, seeing as I barely have the money to pay my rent and my utility bills. I hereby make emergency supplemental appropriations for it and deem it passed! Hey, iPad, here I come! Rob, you don't mind if I just put it on your credit card, do you? Give me a call with the number when you get a minute. Don't worry about it, it will all come out in the wash.
I feel so relaxed now. I've learned to stop worrying and love the recession. It's like this huge burden has just been lifted off of me.
Thank you, US Congress!

Lest Rob forget, Apple is an American company! If Rob doesn't go into debt lending you and Apple a hand, that proves he's sexist and loves shipping jobs overseas! It's probably also an attack on "the poor," but I haven't worked that part out yet. I mean, I'm only pretending to be a Democrat, here...

Claire, this whole feeling is so fun and fuzzy! I think Matthew and I will go out and buy a house today. No need for savings, extra income, all that stuff. Ooooh, just think: separate bedrooms for everyone! Maybe one of those basement game rooms! A kitchen with an island; it all just sounds so tropical and relaxing. I hear ya about the utility bills, rent, etc. being a bit of a crunch, but we'll just be better about it in the future. I'm feeling so good about everything that my confidence about my family's ability to be more restrained (in the coming decades/century/millenia) is skyrocketing! Wow! Happy Birthday America!

Look. The iPad represents a new breed of information technology, and raises the level of conversation among the American people to unimagined heights, unencumbered by the tired print technology of old. Let me be clear, the iPad represents the future, and will create jobs and save the environment. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
(I'm sure Peter, as a former political speechwriter himself, can do a better job of this.)

As you see in my post above, I didn't even wait for Rob's credit card. I just picked myself up and took myself on a nice little Mediterranean vacation. When the bill comes, I plan to send it to someone else's kids. I am loving this!
