The younger (only slightly less loathsome to the left) Palin was recently grilled about how she would handle being assigned a gay dance partner in her return to Dancing with the Stars. She detailed her position in a recent blog post. She said exactly what many (perhaps most?) Christians actually believe concerning gays, gay marriage, and how the controversy plays out in real life. In her closing paragraph she even managed to get a nice dig in on Obama when she wrote:

To the Left, “tolerance” means agreeing with them on, well, everything.  To me, tolerance means learning to live and work with each other when we don’t agree – and won’t ever agree.  So if I have a gay dance partner, we may have some interesting discussions about morality, marriage, and whether the government made him a great dancer because it built the roads that he drove on to dance practice.  But I can promise you that I’ll give it my best effort, I’ll learn all I can learn, and I’ll be proud to hoist that elusive mirror ball trophy right by his side.

Color me surprised, a little amused, and completely supportive of her answer on this. I hope she has the strength to endure the firestorm that will surely come from it.

For a young woman, having a gay male dance partner is really the best and safest kind of birth control.

Given a choice, I'd far prefer Bristol as a daughter than Meghan McCain. Good for Bristol.

Don't you know that "interesting conversations about morality" is just code for imposing my restrictive religious standards and muzzling any opposition?  That comment about the mirror ball trophy is also very ominous. /sarcasm off

I do think you're right. This probably describes how most Christians feel about gay people. My wife's best friend was gay. I've had gay friends. It's actually bigoted to think that Christians are hostile to gays, because only a tiny minority are. Would the press have had the guts to ask the same question of a Muslim contestant? I doubt it.

Looking around that site, I think she might actually be smarter than her mother. I have a feeling we'll be hearing more from her 10-20 years from now.

In life we all make mistakes. It is always what we do after the mistake that makes the man or woman. Bristol had to deal with some tough issues in the glare of the cameras. She had to grow up fast. How she has been able to do this amazes me. What I like about her is that like her mother she seems to know how to respond with a smile.  Seemingly smarter people could learn a lot from her.

I like Bristol.  But I've got this sneaky feeling that it's Piper who is going to rock our world in 20 - 30 years.  Still, this young lady has guts, and my admiration.

If she was anyone other than Sarah Palin's daughter, would she have been asked the question?  If Chelsea Clinton were on Dancing with the Starts, would she have been asked the question.  In the words of Shrek:  "What a load of "

She won't have to worry about her partner trying to cop a feel i suppose.

Not an idiot at all.

Does anybody know her?  Would she be a Ricochet contributor?

Interesting idea.

While we're (ha 'we'!) throwing potential contributors around, how about Louise Mensch, now that she's leaving Parliament and shifting to New York. (She's also something of a political internet entrepreneur with menshn - not that I've ever looked at it.)

I agree.  Bristol's blog post was amazing.  The kind of civility Obama pretends to support.

More than that, it pulled the discussion down out of the ether and put it in the real world. Those of us who oppose SSM really are functional around those who support it. Life goes on in spite of the debate. We still gotta make the doughnuts regardless of the different mental images conjured up by the holes in the middle of them.

Personally, I've never in my life asked a co-worker what their sexual orientation is, and in the one instance that I can recall that one told me they were gay, she turned out to be one of my closest colleagues. Of course, she only told me after we started becoming friends; it wasn't like she announced it on Day 1.

We've lost touch over the years, but I still wonder how she's doing from time to time.
