Breaking: Explosions in Oslo
I have no idea what's going on but this image of the aftermath of an explosion at government offices in Norway is not good. Neither is this one. The offices houses Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Reuters is reporting that he's alive. The nearby Oil Ministry building is on fire, too.
Here's an update in USA Today:
Update at 9:52 a.m. ET:The Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten quotes witnesses as saying Oslo's Market Street is "full of chaos" with people "running around bewildered," some with blood on their faces and hands. "You can smell the sulfur fumes," the newspaper's reporter says.
Oslo is not the most densely populated city so we can pray for a relatively low casualty count from this terrorist attack.

One possible motivation for the attack? From July 12:

Oslo was also the site of the so-called 'peace accords' with the Palestinians ten years ago. The city has a rich history of betrayal and collaboration with evil. Vidkun Quisling seized power and opened the doors for the Nazi invasion of 1940. Executed for treason in 1945.
I have a feeling this is the beginning of a new round of international terrorism.

It's not over:
Widespread reports of attack on a summer camp in Norway. Norwegian news say that a man, dressed in a police uniform, opened fire at a summer camp for young Labour Party people. Several people reported injured.

One Quisling does not a "rich history of betrayal and collaboration with evil" make. The Norwegians fought the Nazis for a month until the conquest was complete (about the same time the French army fought) and Norwegian soldiers were active in the British army during WWII. There are Norwegian (and Danish) soldiers in Afghanistan and have been for the duration of that conflict. Norwegian and Danish warplanes are very active in the Libyan conflict. Norway is, and has always been, a member of NATO and a staunch supporter of the alliance. Like all Scandinavian countries there is some lefty derangement in the culture, but this small nation does not deserve this comment, especially not today.

Well, perhaps the rise of anti-Semitism, not only among Norway's Muslims, but among it's endemic population as well deserves some mention here. The country has been placating its Muslim immigrants to the point of kowtowing. Blatant attacks on Jews, particularly in Malmo, have caused most Jews to leave their homes in Norway and emigrate to other countries. Malmo’s liberal mayor says that this anti-Semitism is just a sad but understandable consequence of Israeli policy in the middle east. Sad but understandable!
As for “not especially today,” why not? Norway, one hopes the world, learned an important lesson today: Nothing any government can do will placate Muslim religious fanatics, including getting rid of their Jews.

Anon, Malmö is in Sweden. I would also not rush to conflate Anti-Semitism with politically correct posturing, although there is sometimes a blurry line.

Quite right. No excuse. Just too damn angry and frustrated to get the words down the right way. Both Norway and Sweden are similar in that respect, but Sweden is not Norway.

Re: Breaking: Explosions in Oslo
When America was attacked on 9/11 every decent person in the world felt sympathy with America and Americans and many people were willing to stand by their friend and ally in the months and years that followed. Americans, quite rightly, thought such a response was fitting and felt, again rightly, that they had a claim to such sympathy and assistance.
Some left-wingers (many of them native born US nutters) jumped up with the claim that America deserved what it got but again all decent people disagreed. Why then are you so willing to flirt with the notion that Norway deserved what it got (I know you didn't flat out say it, but the implication was definitely there)? Does Norway not deserve the same sympathy and offers of help as America did ten years ago?
We now know that the perp was homegrown and not a jihadist, but if that were not so why is the first response from you basically "they deserve it for being lefty squishes"? Discussions on Norwegian immigration policy could follow in a while, but I would have thought that on what was basically the Norwegian 9/11 some decorum was in order.
