It's nice to stand on principle, especially if you are a politician. How much more convenient it is when, after making such a public stand, you are free to violate it when it gets in the way of your own entertainment.

A dispatch on BostonHerald.com reports that after voting for a nonbinding resolution calling on city officials "not to participate in any business activities substantially connected with the State of Arizona and municipalities in Arizona," one Boston City Councilor then chose to go to Fenway Park for ... an Arizona Diamondbacks game! Democratic Councilor John Tobin of West Roxbury explained as follows: "'I asked the bill's co-sponsors for permission,' he said. They said OK."

Nice work if you can get it.
